Ridhee is Punjab topper

Suicide bid outside police HQ

Punjab to develop 700 Model Villages
Ludhiana, May 23
Mr Malkiat Singh Birmi, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Jails, today said that the state government had formulated a comprehensive plan to carry out development of each and every village of the state, under which, funds amounting to Rs 20 crore had already been released for the pavements of streets and construction of drains in the villages.

Residents purchase water in Kidwai Nagar

More than one lakh inhabitants of Kidwai Nagar and the adjoining areas have been experiencing acute water shortage these days. Schoolchildren, office-goers and working people are the worst hit. Residents complained that despite repeated complaints to the authorities concerned, no action has been taken so far.

Come summers and cool drinks are much in demand. Soft drinks, beer, packed juices and several other products claiming relief from heat sell like hot cakes but nothing beats the cool coconut water.

Sardara Singh Oberoi dead
Doraha, May 23
Sardara Singh Oberoi, a staunch Akali leader and member of various educational and religious institutions, died after suffering a heart attack on Sunday. He was 80. He was the executive member of the management committee of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha. Besides, he remained in charge of Payal constituency for the SAD for 16 years.

Exhibition on farm equipment at PAU
Ludhiana, May 23
The Department of Farm Power and Machinery will organise an exhibition on “Farm machinery for diversification of kharif crops and farm safety” on May 27. Dr S.S. Ahuja, Professor and Head of the department, said during the programme the department would focus on mechanisation for diversification of kharif agricultural production system for conserving natural resources and ecosystem and farm machinery safety.

Animal scientists seek NPA
Ludhiana, May 23
Scientists working in animal science disciplines, College of Veterinary Science, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, in a letter addressed to the University Vice-Chancellor, have demanded grant of professional allowance equivalent to the NPA (non practicing allowance) paid to their counterparts having BVSc and A H Degree.

1 lakh grant each for 13 Ludhiana schools
Ludhiana, May 23
The Minister for Education, Punjab Mr Harnamdass Johar today said that the state government had introduced computer education in 1300 government schools in the state during first phase. Mr Johar was addressing a grant distribution function organised at Government Senior Secondary School , Jawahar Nagar, here today. Grants of Rs. 1.20 lakh each were distributed to 13 government schools in Ludhiana(West) constituency for addition of one classroom.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called upon the medical fraternity for scrupulous implementation of the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Test (PNDT) Act so that the embarrassment caused by the violations of different provisions of the Act and the resultant penal action can be avoided.

Online dental CME at CMC
Ludhiana, May 23
Dental Ed’ a national body of dental professionals, conducted its first lecture of a series of 10 lectures, via online presentation at CMC auditorium here on Sunday. More than 100 dental professionals from the city and other parts of Punjab attended the programme and had an opportunity to interact with the faculty from USA and Mumbai.

‘No fear of meningococal epidemic’

Medical professionals from different fields like medicine, paediatrics, microbiology and community medicine have expressed the view that stray cases of meningococcal infection reported from some parts of the state during last few days could not be termed as an epidemic and that there is no need to be panicky.

Licensing mandatory for food items

The civil surgeons and other local health officers all over the state have been directed by the Director, Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, to issue licences for manufacture, trading and sale of food items under the Punjab Food Adulteration Rules 2004 which have already been notified.
