Sonia to decide PCC leadership issue: Tiwari

PAU to conduct entrance test for veterinary course
Ludhiana, May 19
The authorities of the newly carved Sri Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University (not functional as yet) had to eat humble pie as they requested the authorities of the Punjab Agricultural University to hold the entrance test for admission to the BVSc four-year course and also conduct the counselling and interview for admission to the same course.

Commuters at toll plaza a harassed lot

Commuters who have applied for a local pass with the National Highway Authority of India at the toll plaza in Doraha are a harassed lot. Majority of them allege that their passes are being delayed for days together even after having submitted the required documents for it. Not only this, they complain of the indifferent attitude of toll employees, who pressurise them to pay for the slip till the passes are issued to them.

Uncertainty over screening of “Jo Bole So Nihal” persisted as the theatre owners here were been told to make alternative arrangements in case they were not to show the movie tomorrow. It is learnt that the distributor of the movie had asked the theatre owners running the movie in the state to wait. The movie was released in Punjab last Friday and was running full house so far.

IT officials conduct search operations

Officials of the Income Tax Department conducted search operations on two business premises in Khanna this morning. According to information, the officials from Jalandhar and Ludhiana were among those who conducted the search operations at a cattlefeed factory on Samrala Road and on the premises of a doctor in the Purana Bazar area.

Residents resent anti-encroachment campaign

Residents of Rarri Mohalla in Barewal village, led by activists of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) today protested against removal of encroachments by a team of civic officials here last evening and the MC officials had to return without taking any action in this respect for the second day in succession.

Govt stand on schools irks teachers

Commenting on the statement of Ms Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Deputy Chief Minister, regarding the ‘corporisation’ of government schools, Mr Charan Singh Sarabha, general secretary of the Government School Teachers Union Punjab, and state committee member of the Anti-Privatisation Adhyapak Morcha , Punjab, in a press note said, “It is just another name for privatisation of government schools to corporate houses in another form.”

Sacred Heart students excel in ICSE exam

Ludhiana, May 19
Students of Sacred Heart Convent School, Urban Estate, Sector 39, Chandigarh road, Ludhiana, who appeared in the ICSE board examination (class-X), brought laurels by securing cent percent result. Out of 59 students who appeared for the examination, 58 secured the first division, 3 above 90 per cent, 22 above 85 per cent, and 42 above 70 per cent. Manu Sehal was the topper securing 91.4 per cent.

2 remanded in police custody

Gurjant Singh Bhola of Bhinder Kalan and Mohan Singh of Takhtupura, the alleged poppy husk smugglers from whom the Sudhar police allegedly recovered 1000 kg of poppy husk, were today remanded to police custody by Mrs Jitender Walia, SDJM Jagraon, till May 21.

Gupta elected president of Taxation Bar

Mr Bal Krishan Gupta was elected president of the District Taxation Bar Association (Sales Tax) Ludhiana with a thumping majority. He defeated his rival candidate; Mr K.D. Bhardwaj, in a direct contest, with a margin of 79 votes.

“I cannot recollect when I started singing, but I was always singing. Seeing me so absorbed in singing, my parents brought me a guitar. I think from that moment my guitar and I have been inseparable,” said 19-year-old Albert John.

850 patients examined
Ludhiana, May 19
More than 850 patients were examined and medicines distributed among them in a two-day free medical camp which concluded at Gurdwara Sahib Singh Shaheedanji on the Bulara road here yesterday. The camp was organised by Gurdev Hospital under the patronage of Baba Sant Singhji, Dr Hardev Singh Alamgir and Mr Gurdip Singh Leel.
