Under the first scheme, primary medical assistance will be provided to the senior citizens and handicapped persons. For this purpose, a mobile medical team will provide medicines and diagnostic facilities at senior citizens’ doorstep on a weekly basis. Under the second scheme, “forenoon clubs” will be set up for the senior citizens so that they could spend their time constructively in indoor games and outdoor activities. Besides the centre at Mohali, which was inaugurated by Mr R.P. Joshi, president of the association, the scheme will be available at Sood Bhavans in Panchkula and Chandigarh. |

Former Miss India and Miss Asia-Pacific Tina Chhatwal shared her secrets of smooth silky skin along with Dermatologist Kavina Puri. Gagandeep, Saroj clinch carrom titles
Chandigarh, May 17 In the final, Gagandeep ousted the second seed Neeraj Bharti in a one sided clash by 25-09, 25-09. In the women’s singles, Saroj Chandel won the title beating top seed Sushila Prasad in a closely contested match. Naushad of SDM School, Sector 41, won the boys’ junior title defeating Bunty in a three-game contest by 25-17, 17-25, 25-10. In the girls’ singles event, Harshpreet of Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, won the crown beating Neha Goel of St Stephen’s School in straight games by 25-05, 25-12. Piyush Sood of St Kabir School, Sector 26, beat Arish of Government Model High School, Sector 45, in three games contest by 25-04, 13-20, 25-00 to grab the boys’ sub-junior title while the girls’ title went to Surbhi of Mount Carmel School, who ousted Kudrat of Sacred Heart School, Sector 26 and the score stood at 25-05, 23-25, 25-09. Mr Sarabjit Singh, ex- DGP, Punjab and the president of the All-India Carrom Federation gave away the prizes to the winners. Netball camp for Pak series starts
Chandigarh, May 17 This camp is in preparation for the forthcoming three-match series against Pakistan in Pakistan and for the Asian Netball Championships scheduled to be held in Singapore in September, 2005. During the Pakistan tour scheduled from June 2, three matches will be play at Lahore, Islamabad and Hyderabad (Sind). This will be the first Pakistan tour by an Indian netball team. Earlier, a Pakistan men’s netball team toured India during which it played a series of five matches, including one at Chandigarh. A total of 16 girls have been selected from across the country for this intensive camp which apart from imparting netball skills will lay special emphasis on fitness and speed work. The netball coach is Yogesh Sharma from Uttar Pradesh while the physical trainer is Sukhwinder Singh, SAI coach. Mrs Gurcharan Cheema is the manager for the camp. |

Mr Darpan Singh Negi and Mr R K Sharma will accompany the team as coach and manager, respectively. The team will leave for Haldwani in May 19. |
