Fake degree racket flourished while Education Dept slept
Mandi Ahmedgarh, April 21
The confessions made by members of a gang, involved in the printing of fake degrees and certificates of various universities, show that the authorities in the Education Department were not serious about curbing malpractices, including tampering and issuing of fake documents.

Love yarn is spinning trouble for a 30-year-old physically challenged man whose 22-year-old wife wants to marry her paramour, even as his family has appealed to the police to come to their rescue.

The Judicial Magistrate, Mr Tarsem Mangla, has issued arrest warrants against Mukesh Kumar, a partner in M/s Yatish Industries, Chowk Saidan, Ludhiana, in a cheque-bounce case, as he failed to appear in the court despite summons.

Several panthic bodies, which met under the aegis of the Khalsa Panchayat here today, have termed the conversion of several Sikh families into Christians at Goindwal Sahib as warning bells for the community.

85 pc of wheat procured: DC
Ludhiana, April 21
Deputy Commissioner Anurag Verma said here today that 85 per cent of the expected wheat arrival in the district had been procured. The procurement operation had been very smooth in all 99 mandis in the district, he added.

Prize-winning publication released

Sirjandhara released its publication “Naam Nidhan Apar”, which has won a prize of Rs 25,000 in a competition organised by the Bhai Vir Singh Sahit Sadan, Delhi. Manuscripts were received from all over the world in this regard.

Labourer commits suicide
Khamano, April 21
Lakhvir Singh of Barwali Khurd near here, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a tree with the help of a cloth. According to police sources, the victim was a labourer and has three minor children.
