Eventful day ends without any untoward incident
New Delhi, April 17 The Bahadurshah Zafar Marg was closed for the public today except for the valid labeled vehicles, which were permitted to enter the road. The traffic situation was well under control the whole day as the traffic police was out in full strength to monitor the situation. Being a holiday, most of the people preferred to watch the cricket match indoors as they stayed inside their houses. As the match came to an end, most of the spectators wore a weary look, as India lost to Pakistan in a big way. Several of the spectators, who took pains to reach the stadium in the morning and also having spent so much on tickets, came out of the stadium disappointed. Even as spectators started trickling into the Ferozshah Kotla stadium by 5 a.m, duty began at 4 a.m. for the Delhi Police personnel and other security agencies involved in manning the stadium and all roads leading to it, especially those being used by VVIPs to come and watch the match. While personnel manning anti-aircraft guns and sharp-shooters stood hawk-eyed on roof-tops on the ring-view circumference of the Ferozshah Kotla stadium, disaster management teams, including the bomb disposal squad, dog squad and remote/mobile jammers added to the security cover. Extra cautious security men had in place a 3-tier screening of all visitors to the stadium with metal detectors at the entrance, physical frisking and identification checks. As per its instructions, the Delhi Police allowed seating till 9 a.m. and did not allow the spectators to carry ‘’anything’’ inside. Binoculars, transistors, cell phones, cameras, handbags or any other containers were not allowed to be taken inside the stadium. However, the spectators did not face much of a problem while gaining entry to the stadium. The park and ride facilities from distant parking lots notified for the match proved to be a boon for fans to reach the venue as roads next to the stadium had been closed for traffic. The day’s guest of honour, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf reached the stadium by road, and not by helicopter as had been planned earlier. |

Allowing the bail plea, Metropolitan Magistrate Gurdeep Singh said: ‘’Since the present FIR would amount to double jeopardy and since the accused is already on bail with respect to the same allegations and same investigation, I am of the opinion that denial of bail at this stage would amount to cancellation of bail, which has already been granted by the other court.’’ The court noted that since the case had already been investigated and a charge sheet filed, in case new facts and documents came to the knowledge of the complainant, the same should be incorporated in a supplementary charge sheet. The chairman of Aero Group of companies, Mr Avtar Singh, had filed a complaint that his accountant, Mr A. K. Dua and others had forged documents pertaining to purchase of land by his company. The accused allegedly caused the transaction for a major portion of the land in the name of his employer cancelled and forged documents to get the same in the name of his company. Mosquitoes wreak havoc on Noida
Noida, April 17 It is quite sometime since fogging operations were carried out in the town, says Sector-35 RWA secretary N.P. Singh. The less said about cleaning and disinfecting the drains and standing water bodies, the better, adds N.P. Singh. People in the town and surrounding areas are still reeling from the effects of typhoid, which has been increasing in the area. Sector-39 RWA president, Narinder Kumar, complains that for the past several months, there has been no effort to spray pesticide and insecticides and repeated requests or complaints to Noida Authority officials seem to fall on deaf ears. All that the health department officials have to say in reply is that fogging machine is out of order. And wherever health department people come for spraying medicines, they just do it on main road and never cover lanes, bylanes and vacant plots which have invariably been converted into dumping ground for waste, adds Sector-40 RWA secretary S. K. Sharma. In Sector-34, once a fortnight medicines are sprayed. But nothing is done about drains and other spots, which have become breeding ground for mosquitoes with water standing on them. The same is the grievance of A. K. Sharma of Sector-62, who has not seen any health department officials in his area for months. In Morna, the village pradhan Leeley Singh says, “We are being treated shabbily by the authorities. There is no arrangement for cleanliness at all in our villages”. Baraula village Pradhan says he does not remember any cleanliness drive or fogging or spray operation having been done in the village for a long . |
