Misuse of forest land goes on despite HC order

It seems that the Punjab Government has failed to take any lesson from the controversial Forest Hill Resort case. The Punjab and Haryana High Court had come down heavily on it for allowing, even facilitating, misuse of forest land.

Haryana Raj Bhavan to play host to PM

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit tomorrow will see a break from the past with Premier deciding to have his lunch and interaction with people at the Haryana Raj Bhavan instead of the Punjab Raj Bhavan.

HC issues stay orders in flying club case

A Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, headed by Mr Justice Bedi, today ordered that the locks of hangar number 2, which had been allotted to the flying club owned by Punjab Parliamentary Secretary M.S. Birmi, would not be removed till the next date of hearing.

Ex-magistrate’s plea on FIR dismissed
Chandigarh, April 12
The Punjab and Haryana High Court today dismissed the plea of former Chandigarh Judicial Magistrate First Class, who had been caught red-handed by the CBI while accepting a bribe of Rs 7 lakh. Bhardwaj had prayed for quashing of the FIR registered by the CBI on May 9, 2003, under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Chandigarh, April 12
It was indeed spectacular to watch villagers goading their bullocks in 1 km long cart race on the first day of three-day rural sports mela, “Vishaal Pendu Khed Mela” being held at Dr B.R. Ambedkar Stadium in Khuda Ali Sher village near here today. The event is being organised on the occasion of Baisakhi and the birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar by the Gram Panchayat, of the village and the local Youth Club in association with Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad. About 28 teams participated in the cart race. Jang Singh of Jhingran village bagged the first place clocking 27.83 seconds and walked away with a prize money of Rs 4,000/-, Hardit Singh of Lakhmipur village came second registering 28.22 seconds and pocketed Rs 3,500 while Dilpreet Singh Thakhran took 28.29 seconds to the finishing line and bagged Rs 3,000.
