College teachers go on mass leave today

College teachers all over Punjab and Chandigarh will proceed on mass casual leave and hold a protest rally tomorrow at Bathinda, the constituency of the Finance Minister, Mr Surinder Singla.

Class X, XII board exams commence

The PSEB board examinations of Classes X and XII commenced in the city today. The Class X students appeared for English paper in the morning and students of Class XII appeared for different papers in the afternoon. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere.

Cable subscribers taken for a ride

Hundreds of cable subscribers having the connection of Win Cable have been taken for a ride with the services being suspended for the past two days. The subscribers alleged that they had been trying to contact the operator but were unable to trace him.

Pak industrialists optimistic
Ludhiana, March 2
Traders and industrialists of India and Pakistan are feeling optimistic about the growing cooperation between the two countries. During a regional conference on oilseed production held in Lahore, it was felt that if the two countries cooperated with each other it would be in the best economic interests of the two countries.

Members allege bungling of funds in Satluj Club

All does not seem to be well with the local Satluj Club. If allegations levelled against some of the previous office-bearers of the club were to be believed, then misappropriation of funds to the tune of several lakhs had taken place in the club in the last few years with the supervisory officials allegedly looking the other way till recently.

Budget disappoints MCPI
Ludhiana, March 2
Mr Jagjit Singh Lyallpuri, general secretary of the Marxist Communist Party of India and Mr Kuldip Singh, state secretary, in a joint statement described the central Budget presented in the parliament as “anti-people and pro-capitalist and pro-foreign capital budget which has been prepared at the dictates WTO, the IMF and the World Bank in which there is no major relief to the working people and industrial workers”.

Government has ‘betrayed’ farmers

Study circle to launch international cell

The Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle has announced the launching of its international cell. 50 take part in weightlifting championship

More than 50 weightlifters took part in the one-day Punjab Technical University Inter-College Weightlifting Championship held on the Guru Nanak Engineering College campus here today. Dr R.P. Raminder, Malinder adjudged best athletes
