Rural sector to get more funds: Selja
Ugalan (Hisar), January 28 “The Dalits have no say in the present regime headed by Mr Om Prakash Chautala. On the other hand, the Congress has always raised the voice of the downtrodden. So, voting for the Congress is in your interest,” she said while addressing a poll meeting here. She sought votes for Dr Ajay Chaudhary, Congress candidate from the Narnaund constituency. “He is your own candidate and knows your problems. Moreover, if he does not treat you well after winning the election, I am there to set him right,” she said. She said the people of Haryana would benefit if the Congress, which was in power at the Centre, also formed the government in the state. Stating that the coming Assembly elections were crucial, she advised the people to cast their vote judiciously. Later, talking to The Tribune, She asserted that there was a wave in favour of the Congress and the party would get an overwhelming majority in the state Assembly. The people were fed up with the Chautala government and had made up their mind to oust the INLD from power. The Congress leader disclosed that the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, was expected to visit Hisar on January 30 or 31. In reply to a question, she said it was not right to blame the Congress-led UPA government for the rising prices. “There are so many factors responsible for inflation. The flawed fiscal policy of the previous NDA regime is one of them. Moreover, at the time of elections, some vested interests tend to create artificial shortage of certain commodities to gain political mileage,” she maintained. On being asked to comment on fervent appeals by BJP leaders for giving them a chance to form government in Haryana, she maintained the BJP had no mass base in the state. Replying to another query, she remarked the people of Haryana had seen through the designs of Mr Chautala and he would not be able to ‘mislead’ them this time. |
BJP complains to EC against Cong manifesto
Ambala, January 28 Mr Chauhan said this discrepancy clearly showed the Congress in a poor light. “A manifesto is a reflection of a party’s intention, it is a commitment being made by the party to the people and it is a well-thought out document. The discrepancy shows that the Congress is not serious and its manifesto is misleading,” he said. He said the Congress manifesto was announced with much fanfare by Mr Ashok Gehlot, Mr Bhajan Lal and Mr Birender Singh. “They did not even bother to read the manifesto,” he said. “We have already lodged our complaint with the Election Commission over this matter,” he added. Mr Chauhan asked why the SYL was not being completed now despite the Congress government, in Punjab as well as at the Centre. “If the Congress is serious over the SYL issue, then they should complete the SYL,” he said. “Recently, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that the corrupt cannot become the Chief Minister of Haryana. This means, the corrupt are present in the Congress,” he said. “Farmers are not getting urea and the cost of farm products has dropped sharply. Farmers are facing a host of problems under the Congress-led UPA government,” he added. Mr Chauhan said the Congress had failed to check a sharp rise in the prices of basic commodities. “There are more claimants for chief ministership than there are claimants for ministerial berths in the Congress,” he stated. He observed that there was jungle raj in Haryana under the INLD government. “We decided to fight all the 90 seats on our own and we will form the government in Haryana,” he said. |
Go in for change,
Mulayam urges people
Rewari, January 28 He gave this call while addressing an election meeting in favour of the party nominee Mr Raghu Yadav ( Jatusana) at Berli Kalan village, 18 km from here, today. He told the people that if they sent five to ten SP candidates to the Haryana Vidhan Sabha at Chandigarh this time , there would be a total transformation of the political scenario as well as the lot of the masses during the next five years in Haryana. Vigorously asking for votes for Mr Raghu Yadav, he asserted that his victory at the hustings would be an honour to him adding that Raghu Yadav would forcefully raise his voice in the Vidhan Sabha . Referring to former Prime Minister Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee’s statement made on the law and order situation in UP in the wake of the murder of the BSP legislator Raju Pal in Allahabad recently, Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav remarked that Mr Vajpayee’s statement was most unsavoury. He had also a dig at the BSP supremo Ms Mayawati who, he recounted, had implicated him in as many as 149 false cases during her regime. He said he was able to steer clear of the predicament with the assistance of the judiciary. Without naming Congress President Ms Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi, Mr Yadav said the mother and the son, too ,had been making frequent visits to UP and speaking about the deteriorating law and order situation and the lack of development in UP. He asserted that in spite of all these hurdles the Samajwadi party was fast gaining strength and would become a formidable national party after one year. As regards the functioning of the Congress-led UPA govt, he said the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was a person of good intentions and integrity but who was virtually at the helm of the affairs could be anybody’s guess. Regarding his dream of becoming the Prime Minister, he clarified that at present he was not a candidate for the post. Recalling the time he was about to don the mantle of Prime Ministership, he said thanks to the efforts of his old friend Laloo Prasad Yadav it did not happen. Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav also sought support for two other party nominees - Rao Bahadur Singh and Ms Saroj Yadav today while addressing a well-attended election rallies at Narnaul and Kosli, respectively. |
Modi: Congress double-faced on SYL issue
Panipat, January 28 Had the Congress not adopted double standard on the SYL issue, it would have been completed by now, he said adding that the central leadership of the Congress also remained a mute spectator when its Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had passed a resolution annulling water pacts with neighbouring states. Mr Modi criticised both the UPA and the INLD governments for their alleged failure on several fronts. He said while prices of essential commodities had increased a lot during the UPA rule, all sections of society were suffering due to misrule of Chautala. Claiming that only the BJP can provide clean government in Haryana, he also gave example of his Gujarat state in respect of development. Mr Modi said if voted to power, the BJP government would make welfare policies for all sections of people in Haryana. |
Need to vote in regional parties, says Farooq
Sirsa, January 28 Terming the regional parties as true friends, he said these parties were more aware about local issues and problems. Unlike the national parties, he said, the regional parties remained in the know of things related directly to the masses. For every action, the big parties had to look towards their high commands located comfortably in New Delhi, he said. He and Tarlochan Singh, MP, were in the town to hold rallies in support of Mr Chautala. Coming down heavily on the Congress and other parties, he said these parties had intentionally launched a false propaganda against the INLD. Giving a clean chit to Mr Om Prakash Chautala and his government, he said the INLD had done a great job as far as development was concerned. He said the Congress had always worked cleverly to come to power. Urging the voters to vote in favour of the INLD, Rajya Sabha member, Tarlochan Singh said the party had brought about a lot of development in the state. He said the INLD was the true leader of farmers and common man. |
