TURBAN TYING: The Akal Purkh Ki Fauj (APKF) will organise the Quami Dastarbandi Samagam on January 9 at Sant Singh Sukha Singh School here. The function has been organised under the ‘turban pride movement’ started by the APKF, according to Mr Jaswinder Singh, lawyer and coordinator of the movement. ‘Path’ and ‘Kirtan’ will be performed and religious leaders will speak on the importance of the turban in Sikh religion.ACTION DEMANDED: A social worker, Mr S.S. Sharma, alleged that office-bearers of the Shri Durgiana Committee had sold land (47 kanal and 23 marlas) meant for a cowshed at Bhittewad village below the actual value to favour certain persons. He demanded cancellation of the registries and action against of the culprits.
TEACHERS’ PROTEST: Members of the Unemployed Elementary Teachers Union (UETU) from Amritsar, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur and Kapurthala will hold a protest rally in front of the house of the Deputy Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Mr Darbari Lal, to press their demands on January 9. Mr Harwinder Singh Bhatia, president of the local union, said the government had not taken any measure towards regular recruitment of teachers.

SEMINAR: In order to create awareness about traffic rules, the Ferozepore police organised a seminar here which was addressed by Mr Sudhanshu Srivastava, SSP, who exhorted students to obey traffic rules and also spread the awareness about the same. 1 HELD WITH OPIUM: Ran Singh, a resident of Dhantoro village, 7 km from here, was arrested under the NDPS Act for allegedly smuggling opium on Thursday. According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kurukshetra, Mr Virender Kumar Vij, on a tip off, the police party raided the village and arrested Run Singh near his house when he was carrying 8.70 kg of opium. The police recovered the opium from his possession, Mr Vij added
