In-laws held in dowry case

Place of worship removed
Khanna, January 7
Officials of the Railway Department today demolished a Shiv Temple at Vinod Nagar, near the Railway Station, here today. The temple was built on the land of the Railway department. The priest of temple was injured during the demolition drive.

Tension prevailed in Jainpur village here yesterday and a family continued to live under fear as workers of another claimant on the land started putting up wires after erecting a tent house in the rear of their farmhouse amid the allegations that a Parliamentary secretary of the government of Punjab was helping a party in the case.

Deputy Commissioner Anurag Verma today directed District Education Officer (Elementary Education) to hold assessment camps for identification of disabled among children aged 3 to 14 years.

Karigari Craft Bazar begins
Ludhiana, January 7

Karigari Craft Bazaar, an exhibition of pottery, hand-embroidered suits, jewellery and several other crafts items, began at Nehru Sidhhanta Kendra. The exhibition will conclude on January 16. It is organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Dastkar Samiti. Over 40 craftsmen from various states including Gujarat and Rajasthan are participating in the exhibition.

Maths competitions for school children held
Ludhiana, January 7
Guru Nanak International Public School organised Inter-School mathematics competition 2004-2005 at the school premises here today under the direction of Ms P.Kahlon, Director and guidance of Ms B.Gulhati, Principal. Nearly 95 students from 19 CBSE schools of the city participated in the test. Every school was represented by five students of class X.

Bulgarian dancer enthrals students
Ludhiana, January 7
Folk artiste Ivan Dimitrov presented ethnic Bulgarian dances at Partap College of Education here last evening. Organised by the Punjab Cultural Promotion Council, the cultural extravaganza included folk songs by Toronto-based singers, Mander brothers, dances by the PCPC and a lecture on films on Sikhism by actor Mangal Dhillon.

Teams of Jagraon district police officials visited schools and the transport areas to educate people on traffic rules and management of road accidents. A traffic safety camp was organised at Dehlon police station under the guidance of Mr Jatinder Pal Singh Khaira DSP Dakha.

The police, in a raid last night, arrested a patwari and kanungo of Bhambri village falling under Khamano for allegedly tampering with revenue records of a person of Shamshpur village, near here.

Plea to allocate funds for alternative health systems
Ludhiana, January 7
The Nature Cure Education Trust has made a fervent plea to the state government to provide adequate infrastructure, basic facilities and financial allocation for ayurvedic and other alternative systems of medicine, which were till now being neglected.

BVM athlete creates national record
Ludhiana, January 7
The students of Bharatiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar, gave a sterling performance winning 12 medals including 7 gold in the 17th National Athletics and Judo Championship organised by the Vidya Bharati Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Sansthan from December 26 to 29 at Satna in Madhya Pradesh.
