Punjab will soon go bankrupt: Badal

Former Chief Minister and President of the Shiromani Akali Dal Parkash Singh Badal today regretted the state of affairs in Punjab. He said the way the state was being run, it would not take long for people to go bankrupt. Mr Badal was talking to reporters after attending the funeral of Sukhdev Kaur Grewal, mother of SAD general secretary, Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal here today.

The Guru Granth Sahib Seva Mission has taken it upon itself to translate Guru Granth Sahib into 13 prominent Indian languages so that people across the country can follow the path shown by the Gurus.

The controversy shrouding the farmhouse at Jainpur village, near here, took a new turn today, with the occupant of the house alleging that the local revenue officials were not recording the decree of the land in the revenue records.

The Shiv Sena (Hindustan) will hold a demonstration and gherao the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi on January 10 in protest against the arrest of the Shankaracharya of Kanchi and the “false” implication of the seer in criminal cases by the Tamil Nadu Government.

Marriages of poor girls solemnised
Ludhiana, December 26
It was a happy day for three poor girls who got married today due to the efforts of the Maa Bhagwati Club and the Bharat Vikas Parishad (Shivaj branch). The marriages were solemnised at Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Deep Nagar, in the presence of members of both organisations.

Dasehra panel approves accounts
Ludhiana, December 26
A general body meeting of the Urban Estate Ram Lila Dasehra Committee Dugri was held under the chairmanship of its president, Mr Raj Garg, wherein the income and expenditure accounts for 2004-2005 were approved.

Punjabi novel award for Mitter Sain
Mitter Sain Ludhiana, December 26
The Shiromani Punjabi Novel Purskar will be given to Mitter Sain Meet for his novel “Kaurv Sabha” for 2004.The award includes a shawl, a plaque , a citation and cash. The award will be given on December 28 at Punjabi Bhavan. The day coincides with the death anniversary of Sardar Nanak Singh, founder of Punjabi novel writing.

No backlog of LPG refills

The Ludhiana LPG Distributors Association has claimed that the supply of cooking gas to city residents is being made on demand and there is no backlog of LPG refills.

7 booked in bus driver’s death case
Amloh, December 26
The local police has booked seven persons under Sections 302, 353, 186, 427 and 147 of the IPC for causing the death of PRTC driver Jaswinder Singh last evening. Dr Mahesh Jindal, Medical Officer, Civil Hospital, Amloh, conducted the medical examination and the police handed over the body to the family of the driver today. The viscera of the deceased has been sent for chemical examination.

House of Sarpanch attacked, 2 injured
Khanna, December 26
The house of Rupinder Singh Gandhi, Sarpanch of Rasulra village, who was murdered last year in a gang war, was attacked by about 10 persons last night. Surinder Kaur, sister of Gandhi, and Jagtar Singh Sonu, driver of the Sarpanch’s family, received injuries in the attack. Both injured persons were admitted to the Civil Hospital, Khanna. Later, Sonu was referred to a Ludhiana hospital due to his deteriorating condition.

3 booked for defrauding bank
Khanna, December 26
The Khanna police today booked three persons including two rice mill owners on the charge of committing fraud with the Khanna branch of the Central Bank of India. The case was registered on a complaint of a senior Manager of the Bank, Mr Surinder Kumar Gupta.

Travel agents booked
Jagraon, December 26
Joginder Singh son of Gajjan Singh of Litran, and Balwinder Singh, alias Billa, of Batala, are alleged to have cheated Ajmer Singh, son of Pala of Noorpur. Both are now booked under Sections 406 and 420, IPC, at Raikot police station.

The movie ‘Khalsa’, written, directed and produced by Mangal Dhillon was screened for students and staff of Guru Nanak Public School at the school auditorium here today. Mr R.S. Gill, Principal of the school, welcomed Mr Dhillon and applauded his efforts in producing such a well informing movie.

The martyrdom day of Swami Shradhanand was observed at Arya Senior Secondary School here today. A function was held under the aegis of Mr Sudarshan Sharma, president, Arya Prithinidhi Sabha. Rajesh Sharma, district president of the Arya Sabha, spoke about the Swami.
