A local rehri wala’s honesty prompted a local advertisement agency person to search for the New British Labour Party on the Internet. The advertising man, Shalin, told the Chandigarh Tribune that a rehriwala approached him in Sector 22, saying that he had found a purse lying on the road near an electronic shop in the market. He had come to the shop to deliver goods.

Five women members of the UK-based Nek Chand Rock Garden Foundation are here on a unique mission to preserve and maintain city’s one of the main attractions, the Rock Garden. The members, Elyse Eales, Amy Williams, Francisca Prieto, Kate Riddihough and Katie Pettitt, arrived in Chandigarh on October 19.

Sampark centres to accept passport forms
Chandigarh, October 26
City residents can deposit passport application forms at Sampark from tomorrow. The first centre to start accepting the forms will be the one in Sector 43. By Monday, passport forms will be accepted at the other two centres also.

IT raid on 2 Meena Bazar showrooms

The Income Tax Department today raided two showrooms of a prominent readymade garments seller, Meena Bazar, at Sector 17, here and at the Notified Area Committee market in Mani Majra.

42 cases of power theft detected
Mohali, October 26
Punjab State Electricity Board officials conducted raids on the premises of consumers in nearby villages today. Fines totalling about Rs 2.5 lakh were imposed for power thefts and for drawing load more than that had been sanctioned.

2 houses, shop burgled
Chandigarh, October 26
Two houses and a shop in the city were burgled during the past 24 hours, the police said here today. Jaipal from the kabari market in the Industrial Area filed a complaint that his servants Joginder Singh and Ajay from Barwas village in Khusi Nagar district of Bihar made away with Rs 65,000 from his shop.

Beauty in futility
Shernaz Patel in “ Molly Sweeney”, directed by Rehaan Engineer, at Tagore Theatre in Chandigarh on Tuesday. “Molly Sweeney” is an outpouring of Irish playwright Brian Friel. The play, staged at Tagore Theatre here on Tuesday, is interspersed with some fun moments. It forces one to think about the sorrow, beauty, and futility of life. The play opened with Molly Sweeney (Shernaz Patel ) and Frank (Rehaan Engineer) doing ballroom dance. Then they both sit on chairs and are joined by the third character, Dr Rice (Vijay Crishna). From here the story proceeds.

Rest best for expecting mothers

Taking rest during pregnancy leads to the birth of healthier babies as the foetus gains weight by around 10 to15 gm. Highlighting the need for taking proper care of expectant mothers, the head of the Department of Neo-natology at the PGI, Dr Anil Narang, while interacting with the mediapersons said adequate rest taken by pregnant women and the intake of nutritious diet leads to the birth of healthy babies.

The main scorers for DAV were Gurvinder (29), Sukhpal (16) and Dilavar (8), while for the losers Akshayjeet (21), Navdeep (18) and Ashish (10) were the main scorers.

Chandigarh TT Club emerge victorious

Over 70 teams are participating in the 17th Stag Chandigarh State Table Tennis Championships being held at the Sector 23 table tennis hall. In the cadet boys’ team event, Chandigarh Table Tennis Club emerged victorious by beating Coaching Centre-23 by a margin of 3-2.

Gian Jyoti to host CBSE national judo meet

Gian Jyoti Public School, Phase 2, Mohali, will conduct a national-level judo competition for CBSE schools from October 28 to 30. It is the first time that any school of Mohali has got the opportunity to host any national-level competition of CBSE schools.

EO, engineer to check development expenditure

The Municipal Council Executive Officer and engineer will be held responsible for the preparation of expenditure estimates for development work in excess of the financial resources of the council. A proposal to this effect will be presented at a meeting of the council fixed for October 29.
