Gurdwara attack: Sikhs hold protest rally Jammu, September 29 Led by Mr T.S. Wazir, president, Gurdwara Prabandhak Board, protesters went through the city streets in buses and vans and carrying placards. They later reached the UNMOG headquarters where they submitted a memorandum to the Punjab (Pakistan) Chief Minister through the officials of the UNMOG. The memorandum wanted the Pakistan Government to provide adequate security to the religious places of the minorities. It said that the mob attack on Gurdwara Nankana Sahib had come at a time when Delhi and Islamabad were trying to resolve bilateral problems peacefully. J&K Govt suspends 6 officials, sacks three lawyers
Srinagar, September 29 Six officials of the zonal education office, in Budgam district were placed under suspension for remaining absent in duty by Minister of State for Education Ghulam Nabi Lone during a surprise visit paid by him today, the spokesman said. Mr Lone also asked the Director, School Education, to take disciplinary action against the staff of higher secondary school, Chrar-e-Sharief, in the district as the school was found closed during his visit, and asked to submit the necessary report early. Meanwhile, the government terminated the services of recently appointed standing counsel for the SIDCO, Muzaffar Kirmani, with immediate effect. The government also terminated the services of Tasaduq Khawja and Muksha Kazmi, both advocates. No reason was assigned for the termination of the services of the three lawyers.

Jammu, September 29 The strike call was given by the J&K Government
Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC). Though work in the Government Medical College and Hospital and associated hospitals was affected, emergency services ran smoothly. The demands included release of 2 per cent DA from January and 3 per cent from July, merger of 50 per cent DA with the basic pay on the pattern of Central Government employees, regularisation of the services of daily wagers, formation of a transparent transfer policy, filling of vacant posts in various government departments and revital of grant of the LTC. EJAC leaders Pradeep Kumar, Ashok Sharma, Anwar Beig, Ram Kumar, Gafoor Dar and Subash said if the government did not concede to their demands, they would go on an indefinite strike from next month.

Shabir Shah detained
Srinagar, September 29 Official sources said here that Mr Shah and Mr Tari were detained at Ashmuqam, 70 km from here, in the Pahalgam Assembly constituency which went to the polls in the byelections along with three other seats on October 13. Separatists in Jammu and Kashmir have asked the people to boycott the elections and some of them, including JKLF Chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik and Hurriyat Conference leaders belonging to the hardline faction headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, were detained by the police, while indulging in the anti-poll campaign over the past one week. — PTI |
