Intensive care chapter formed

Ludhiana, September 24
An intensive care chapter of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics has been formed to make the best possible care available to critically ill children in the state. Dr Daljit Singh has been elected its president and Dr Rakesh Gupta its secretary. It aims to organise educational activities and conduct paediatric critical care courses. A workshop on paediatric emergencies will be organised here on Sunday.

DC inaugurates kho-kho meet

Khamann, September 24
Mr S.K. Ahluwalia, Deputy Commissioner, Fatehgarh Sahib, inaugurated cluster-level kho-kho tournament at Jawahar Navodya Vidyalya, Farour. Nearly 150 players from seven districts are taking part.

The Deputy Commissioner announced a grant of Rs 10,000 to the winners. The SDM, Khamano, Mr Ravinder Kumar, was present, among others.

After the function, the Deputy Commissioner distributed cheques among sarpanches of 18 villages in Khamano subdivision.

Nankana Sahib, Khalsa schools in semis

Ludhiana, September 24
Khalsa Girls Senior Secondary School, Nankana Sahib Public School, Government Senior Secondary School at Bharat Nagar Chowk and Government High School at Doraha won their respective matches to secure berths in the semi-finals of the district Ranjodh Kaur Grewal Memorial Hockey Tournament for Women, which began at Guru Nanak Stadium here today. All teams won by one goal each.

In the inaugural match, Mandeep Kaur of Nankana Sahib Public School put her side ahead midway through the first half and the team held on to the lead till the hooter. In the second match, Kirandeep Kaur scored during the opening moments for Government Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar Chowk. In the third match, Parveen Kaur of Khalsa Girls Senior Secondary School found the target in the second half. In the last match of the day, Government High School at Doraha won through a goal by Gurpreet Kaur in the first half.
