DMC heart centre functioning to resume today
Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, September 20
Normal functioning of the Hero DMC Heart Institute, an affiliate of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, where the employees called off a strike yesterday, is likely to resume tomorrow.

The Director of the Institute, Dr G.S. Wander, said the entire institute was being fumigated today as part of a hygiene drive as the place had remained closed for about two weeks.

He said the patients would be received in the institute tomorrow onward, including admissions.

The strike was called off after the employees reached an agreement with the management. The union assured cooperation to the management after all its demands were met.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the management had kept alternative channels of negotiations with employees open. It had constituted a committee led by senior faculty member Tej K. Kaul, head of the Department of Anaesthesia.

While the management was talking to the union, it had reportedly given authority to the committee to look into the grievances of the employees.

Sources in the DMC revealed that the management had been getting feedback on the employees' mood through this committee. A senior member of the management revealed that the committee indicated to the employees that the management was concerned about their problems.

The seven-member committee consisted of members of the faculty who enjoyed the confidence of both the management as well as the union.

The union is learnt to have assured the management that it would not go on strike in future, or at least will not let the functioning of the hospital or the heart institute suffer.
