DHO askes vendors to keep eatables covered

The district health authorities have asked the traders and the establishments engaged in preparation and sale of eatables to maintain hygienic conditions at their places, besides maintaining quality of the products. The team collected 14 samples from various shops from here and surrounding villages. The samples were sent to a government laboratory for testing the purity of the products.

Dr K. C. Goel, District Health Officer, Sangrur, said apart from collecting samples of products of human consumption, they also took serious note of lack of cleanliness at some of the establishments.

The DHO asked the shopkeepers and vendors to keep the eatables covered and avoid handling with dirty hands .Emphasising on the need of maintenance of nutritional value of the food items, he said, "The price for every penny of the buyer can be paid by the seller by taking an extra care."

Govt college boys finish third

Ludhiana, September 16
The students of the local Satish Chander Dhawan Government College for Boys finished third in the Panjab University Inter College Softball Tournament held at the university campus at Chandigarh.

According to Mr Devender Singh Chahal, head of the physical education department of the college, the boys emerged winners in the zonal tournament. In the final, they trounced Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh 13-1.

Later in the inter-college tournament (league matches), the local lads gost the better of SGGS College, Chandigarh 8-6; lost to Panjab University campus team 4-5 and went down fighting against DAV College, Chandigarh 4-6 to finish third.

On the basis of performance during this tournament, five boys of Government College, Ludhiana, Nirmal Singh, Satish Kumar, Deepak Kumar, Gurpreet Singh and Pankaj Saini have been selected to take part in the All India Inter Varsity Softball Championship scheduled to be held in Kerala.
