3 Bar Council members show concern over judges' tussle

Three members of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, including an office-bearer, today expressed concern over the failure of Mr Chief Justice and other judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to resolve their differences.

Congress focuses on youth through new code of conduct

The Congress party is on a mission to awaken the youth to their social responsibility. To begin with, it means saying an emphatic no to dowry. Under a new code of conduct circulated to its frontal organisations, including the National Students Union of India (NSUI) and Indian Youth Congress (IYC), the youth would play messengers of peace and instruments against prevailing social evils.

Security guard stabbed
Chandigarh, September 12
A security guard was stabbed in the abdomen this evening by a person who wanted an entry into a house in Sector 21 to meet his wife working as a servant. The security guard, Shailender Kumar, was operated upon in the GMCH and is stated to be out of danger. The alleged attacker, Amar Singh, was arrested. The police is also questioning Shiv Murat, another suspect.

Ex-Punwire employees  block traffic

Reviving their stir against the Punjab Government, members of the Punjab Wireless Limited Employees Union today held a protest rally, blocking traffic for over an hour, at Balongi Chowk here. Over 500 former employees of the now-closed company raised slogans against the government for having not kept its promise to revive the company.

Arrest of bull ‘transporters’ demanded

Activists of various Hindu organisations today demanded the arrest of four persons allegedly involved in transporting bulls from this part of the region to eastern states.

More autorickshaw drivers to join stir
Mohali, September 12
Autorickshaw drivers from Panchkula, Dadu Majra, Dhanas and other nearby areas will join the strike of autorickshaw drivers at Mohali tomorrow. The strike by the SAS Auto Drivers Union here entered the fourth day today.

Labourer run over by Shatabdi
Lalru, September 12
Deepak Kumar (25), a migrant labourer from Sultanpur in Bihar, was run over by the Chandigarh-Delhi Shatabdi Express on the Kalka-Ambala line in Lehli village early this morning. He was crossing the line.

Body found hanging
Panchkula, September 12
A 40-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging in a tin shed in a vacant plot in Sector 4 here today. Ram Prasad, a dhobi by profession, was reportedly suffering from depression and was drunk last night before he slipped away from his house in Haripur village, near here.

2 held for attacking shopkeepers
Mohali, September 12
A father-son duo alleged to be involved in the attack on a hardware shop yesterday was arrested by Kharar police today. Four persons, including three shopkeepers, had sustained serious injuries when a group of customers allegedly attacked them with swords and batons at a hardware and sanitary store in Kharar yesterday afternoon.

GMCH to have hand surgery unit 
Chandigarh, September 12
The Department of Orthopaedic surgery at GMCH, Sector 32, is developing a hand surgery unit. The department has invited Dr Neils O. Thomsen from Sweden and Dr Annemarie from Denmark to operate upon patients and deliver special lectures on hand surgery on Monday.

Bansal was the guest of honour while Member Parliament, Chandigarh, Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal was the chief guest on the occasion.  Patients are examined at a medical camp at Kishangarh village in Chandigarh on Sunday, in which about 2,300 persons were examined.
