GNPS wins Sahodaya dance trophy

Ludhiana, August 31
The Ludhiana Sahodaya Schools Complex Dance competition was organised today at Guru Nanak Public School at Sarabha Nagar which was inaugurated by Mr R.N. Parbat, Additional Commissioner, Income Tax, by lighting a lamp.

In all, 10 teams participated in the classical dance which including Kathak and Bharat Natyam. It was a solo performance. As many as 16 teams participated in folk dance competition which included gidha, bhanga, naga dance, Rajasthani and Haryanvi dance. All the dances were well appreciated by the audience.

Results:

Classical Dance: GNPS, Sarabha Nagar 1, Sacred heart Convent School, BRS Nagar 2 and Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar 3. Consolation prize BCM, Shastri Nagar and USPC, Jamalpur.

Folk Dance: GNPS Sarabha Nagar 1, BCM Arya Model School, Shastri Nagar 2 and GNIPS Model Town, Ludhiana 3.

Consolation: DAV, BRS Nagar and Spring Dale Public School, Sherpur Byepass, Ludhiana.

Overall champions trophy — GNPS, Sarabha Nagar, Special award on Judges’ Choice — Jaspreet Singh of GNPS.

Ahimsa training camp concludes

Jagraon, August 31
A five-day ahimsa training camp, organised on the campus of Anubrat Senior Secondary Public School, here concluded yesterday under the guidance of Subh Pragya, a disciple of Acharya Mahapragya. Many persons from 18 cities of Punjab participated. During the five-day camp people learnt about dhayan, asanas, pranayam. These were followed by intellectual classes. Amrit Pragya illustrated about science of life. The role of writers in building a healthy society was also discussed by Dr Satish Kumar Sharma, Principal DAV College Jagraon.

Lawyers’ conference from November 5

Ludhiana, August 31
The eighth biennial conference of All India Lawyers Union(A.I.L.U.) shall be held from November 5 to 7, 2004 at Jallandhar. Over 600 delegates from India and abroad are expected to take part in the three-days deliberations of conference. Delegates from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Korea, England and Canada have already confirmed their participation, claimed Mr Harbag Singh Gill, secretary of A.I.L.U’s Punjab unit, here today.

Mr Gill said that Mr Som Nath Chatterji, Speaker of Parliament will be the chief guest. Mr Sethi a retired Judge of the Supreme Court will present the key note address. A seminar will be addressed by eminent legal luminaries, including Mr Fali. S. Nariman, Mr K K Venogopal, Mr Hardev Singh and Mr R S Cheema.

Formation of the National Judicial Commission, Amendment to the Contempt of Courts Act to make truth a defence, repeal of atrocious laws, appointment and transfer of judicial officers, problems of junior lawyers, right to information and official secrets Act shall be the main topic of conference, added Mr Gill.
