Money stolen claims financier; no, says police
Ludhiana, June 20
A leading financier of the city and the Division No 2 police have locked horns over an alleged theft incident in which he claimed that some person stole a polythene bag containing money from his car in Field Ganj near Karimpura Chowk late last night.

Sokhi to be elected unopposed
Ludhiana, June 20
The SAD (A) said today that the Panthic Morcha had opened its account in the SGPC elections from the district. Mr Charan Singh Lohara, party general secretary, and Mr Balwinder Singh Bains, president of the youth wing, said its candidate from the Ludhiana South 71 (Women reserve constituency), Ms Sukhwinder Kaur Sokhi, would be elected unopposed.

BSNL giving its subscribers a raw deal

Even in the face of stiff competition being faced from private operators of cellular and basic telecom services in the region, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) continues to give a raw deal to its subscribers here to the extent that its customer base in the industrial hub of Punjab is fast shrinking and harassed subscribers have either deserted the PSU or were in the process of weighing other options.

ASI, constable booked
Khanna, June 20
The Khanna police has booked an ASI, a constable and a woman on charges of corruption on a complaint by a local resident. DSP(D) Rajeshwar Singh said the case had been registered after preliminary investigation in which the two were found guilty.

Man held for cheating people
Ludhiana, June 20
The local police today claimed to have arrested a person, Banarsi Gupta of Bihar, on the charge of cheating people by promising them to double their money within two months. Giving the information, Mr Sandeep Sharma, SHO of Kotwali police station told mediapersons that the police had recovered Rs 40,000 from the accused which he had taken from a person and assured him to double it.

Four fraud cases registered
Ludhiana, June 20
On the statement of Mr Avtar Singh, resident of Kheri village, near Dhuri, in Sangrur district, the Kotwali police has registered a case under Section 420 of the IPC against Banarsi Gupta.

Geetansh continues to dominate with bat
Ludhiana, June 20
Geetansh Khaira, a student of Class VIII, continued to dominate with bat, hitting 71 runs to enable his team, Tony Mahajan XI, to register seven-wicket victory over Anil Bharti XI (third win in-a-row) in the 8th Chaman Lal Malhotra Cricket Cup Tournament (u-14) being organised by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association at the Arya College for Boys ground here today. In the second match, Charanjit Singh Ahluwalia XI thrashed Prof F.C. Chopra XI by 100 runs.
