IGNOU introduces new PG courses

Ludhiana, June 20
Dr U C Pandey, Regional Director, IGNOU, Regional Centre Khanna, at a press conference here today at IGNOU special study centre-2210 in Everest Public Senior Secondary School, Moti Nagar, said new courses had been introduced.

Dr Pandey, Dr Inderpal Singh, former Pro Vice-Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Prof Harlal Singh, former Director, Punjab School Education Board, addressed the press conference.

Dr Pandey said that present graduate and postgraduate courses (BA, B.Com, BCA, MCA, MA etc) were already operational at the study centre here. He further said that under ‘South Asia Foundation Programme’ 3000 ‘Madanjeet Singh School scholarships’ would be awarded annually to rural students. Selected students, under this scheme, would get a grant of $300 per annum from the South Asia foundation. Dr Pandey said that special awareness programmes chalked out by WIPO in the field of social work and property rights would also be organised.

He also said that a unique programme ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ in collaboration with World IPR would be conducted. It would offer diplomas of three months and six months, respectively.

Dr Inderpal Singh stressed the need for quality education. He welcomed the policies and programmes of IGNOU but said that while continuing such programmes quality should not be ignored and the system should work on the guidelines given by the UGC and National Education Policy, so that national and international standards of education were maintained.

Prof Harlal Singh said that while the programmes and policies introduced by IGNOU would fulfil the dreams majority of Indians in the field of education. Now the present policy would also attract the rural masses to reap the benefits of education possible to all Indians. The Coordinator, Mrs Asha Sharma said that in addition to the courses already run by IGNOU at this special study centre, MA in English and Hindi had been introduced at the study Centre here.

Mr Rajinder Sharma, President, Association of the Punjab School Education Board Affiliated Schools, Punjab (Red) thanked Dr U C Pandey and other speakers.

Shakti school students shine in 10+2 exam

Machhiwara, June 20
Students of the local Shakti Public Senior Secondary School proved their brilliance with their outstanding performance in the 10+2 exam of Punjab School Education Board held this year, the merit list of which was released by the board authorities yesterday.

Davinder Kaur (Roll No 380201) bagged the fourth position in the state by securing 402 marks out of 450. Six other students of the school have been placed in the merit list. Navneet Kaur (Roll No 380202) secured 381/450 marks (18th position), Amrinder Singh (Roll No 380222) got 378/450 marks (23rd position), Amandeep Kaur (Roll No 380204) and Mandeep Singh (Roll No 380236) secured the 27th position by securing 372/450 marks, and Pritpaul Singh (Roll No 380227) got 371/450 marks (28th position).
