Stock Holding agent ‘steals’ bank draft

The safety of bank drafts appended with applications of bidding shares in the local branch of the Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited (SHCIL) has come under the cloud with a draft for bidding 200 shares sent by a resident of Moga town being allegedly ‘stolen’ by an agent and used with the application of some other person.

Revenue officials to be booked for fraud

Deputy Commissioner Anurag Verma has written to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Ludhiana, to register a case against a patwari of Borhey circle and a kanungo of Mattewara circle under Sections 420/465/467/468, IPC, for committing a fraud by changing the ownership of government land by preparing false record in the name of a private person.

Rs 1.07-cr excise duty evasion detected
Ludhiana, June 14
The Central Excise Preventive Wing of the Central Excise Commissionerate, Ludhiana, has detected a major fraud, worth Rs 1.07 crore, committed by a Ludhiana-based textile unit. The unit had been evading excise duty by showing fresh fabrics as cut or rejected ones.

BKU’s advice to Punjab on SYL

The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) has emphasised that rather than filing a review petition against the Supreme Court judgement on SYL canal, the Punjab Government should challenge the relevant sections of Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966, to seek rightful distribution of river water.

Families of martyrs honoured
Mandi Gobindgarh, June 14
Punjab is the only example in the world which has completely controlled the militancy. This was stated by Mr Iqbalpreet Singh Sahota, DIG, Patiala Range, while addressing a function organised by the Municipal Committee and industrialists here last evening, in memory of the martyrs of the police force of district Fatehgarh Sahib, who laid down their lives to control the militancy.

The Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal has demanded the abolition of octroi in Punjab. It alleged that at several places octroi collection was being done by private contractors, who harassed the traders.

CBSE exams: city students fare badly
Ludhiana, June 14
“In the class XII CBSE examinations, only a handful of Ludhiana students scored more than 90 per cent marks. In humanities, the highest score was under 90 per cent. In the Class X CBSE examinations , the students fared better but not as well as those of Chennai and Delhi.

Summer camp ends
