‘Low Calorie’ show
: Slim-n-Shape organised “Low calorie” show on its premises here on Friday. A low-calorie menu was displayed which had high nutritional contents. The dishes included “gobhi musalam”, soya salads and brown bread pizzas. A low-calorie cooking competition was organised, in which 15 women participated. A health quiz was also organised. Dr Subhasini Verma, Head of the Department of Food and Nutrition, Punjab Agricultural University, was the judge. The first prize was bagged by Ms Vasundhra Jain, while the second prize went to Ms Amarpreet and the third prize to Ms Maninder.

OFFICE-BEARERS: Prof J. S. Pasricha, Head of the Department of Commerce, Punjabi University, has been elected president of the Patiala chapter of the Indian Accounting Association. Mr G.S. Batra, Reader in the Punjab School of Management Studies, Punjabi University, has been elected its secretary-cum-treasurer.

SENIOR FELLOWSHIP: Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Swarn Singh Boparai has conferred two year’s Senior Fellowship on Dr Kesar Singh. Dr Kesar Singh, who retired from the School of Punjabi Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, is an eminent literary personality in the field of literary criticism. He has written and edited more than a dozen books in Punjabi language on all essential aspects of Punjabi literature.


CHANDIGARH

HEALTH TALK: The local branch of the Trained Nurses Association of India on Friday organised a health talk in various OPDs and the reception area of Government Medical College, Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, as a part of Nurses Week celebrations. The talk revolved around the theme “Nurses — working for poor; against poverty”. 

Health camp: Gandhi Smarak Bhavan, Sector 16 A , Chandigarh, is organising a week-long health awareness camp from May 14 to 19. According to the Director of Gandhi Smarak, patients suffering from acute /chronic diseases would be treated through naturopathy/ diet/ yoga/ organic wheat grass juice.

Panchkula
CELEBRATED: Members of the Panchkula Bar Association on Friday celebrated the victory of the Congress candidate from the Ambala Lok Sabha constituency, Ms Selja. The president of the association, Mr Satish Kadian, along with various members, who included Mr Atul Aggarwal, Mr Suresh Rohila, Mr Ajay Chaudhary and Mr Sudhir Singhal, distributed sweets among advocates and litigants to celebrate the Congress victory.
