The Congress candidate, Rao Inderjit Singh, has wrested the Mahendragarh parliamentary seat from the BJP. He has trounced his nearest rival, Dr Sudha Yadav, of the BJP by a huge margin of 2,10,341 votes.

It was celebration time for the local Congressmen following the overwhelming win of the party candidate, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, from the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat.

Deputy Speaker embroiled in poll violence
Gurgaon, May 13
The Deputy Speaker of the Haryana Assembly and local MLA, Mr Gopi Chand Gehlot, appears to have run into social problem of sorts in his village backyard regarding the poll violence on May 10. A panchayat was convened in Jharsa by the head of Jharsa-360, Mr Deva Singh, in village Jharsa, in connection with the violence outside a polling booth. Mr Deva Singh said that Mr Gehlot was asked to attend the meeting but he did not turn up.

The Anti-Homicide cell of the Crime Branch claimed to have apprehended three notorious robbers involved in several cases of robbery and snatching in the West and South-West districts, after a brief encounter in the Pitampura area last evening. One countrymade pistol, two live cartridges and a knife were recovered from their possession.

The police have arrested a youth of nearby Kheri Kalan village on charges of raping a married woman of the same village. A case has been registered after a complaint by the victim.

Led by Commander Satyabrata Dam, the Indian Navy’s 14-member team is making its first ever attempt to scale Mt Everest this summer. The Defence Minister, Mr George Fernandes, along with the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Madhvendra Singh, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, had flagged off the expedition on March 8, 2004, aboard a submarine.

The North Face and the Southwest Face routes are considered the most challenging, being sheer granite walls and mixed ice flutings.

Vehicle owners parking their vehicles in the Daryaganj area will have to take a token from the police personnel standing near the parking lot or from the nearest police station after parking their vehicles.
