Ganguly shares impressions on Eden Gardens
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, May 13
Indian cricket captain Saurav Ganguly will share some interesting details of his cricket career at the Eden Gardens, the Mecca of cricket in India.

In a candid discussion, Ganguly recalls his Ranji debut at the age of 16. The interview will be telecast on the ‘ESPN Presents Samsung Cricket Show’ on Friday, May 14, at 9.30 p m. The programme also takes a hard look at the week’s cricket played across the world.

Ganguly, on not having done well as a batsman at Eden Gardens, said, “it’s not been a great record at Eden Gardens in terms of Test matches. I’d really love to get a Test 100 here. I hope before I finish, I can do that. I think it just gets to me sometimes—the whole atmosphere and the expectations”..

On the atmosphere at Eden Gardens after beating Australia in 2001, Ganguly said “we couldn’t get out of the dressing room till about 7.30 in the evening. There were thousands of people outside. They had to delay our flight to Chennai, where we were going to play our next match, by two hours because we couldn’t leave”.

When asked about his Ranji debut at the age of 16, at the expense of brother Snehasis, Ganguly said it was a difficult game for him at 16.

“I knew I wouldn’t be in the team as we had a pretty strong side which had been doing well. A few days before the game, I practised as usual and went for my tuition.

When I came home, my father said, ‘congratulations’. I told my brother it would be really nice to play alongside him for the final...it was only then that I came to know that he had been dropped from the side...some of the excitement went down”, Ganguly recalled.
