Minor allegedly raped by two, police sceptical

The Jagraon police today booked three persons, including two brothers, in separate cases of rape, one of a minor girl and another of a teacher, in the town last night. The veracity of both the cases is, however, being investigated.

Govt failed to fulfil promises, say pensioners
Ludhiana, March 20
The Government Pensioners’ Association has alleged that the Amarinder government, during its 25-month rule, has failed to fulfil even a single promise made by the Congress in its manifesto on the eve of Punjab Assembly poll in February, 2002. The promises included a raise in medical allowance and grant of house rent allowance to pensioners. Strangely, the government has money for ministers, MLAs and former MLAs but its coffers are empty for the pensioners, the pensioners alleged.

Mohan Singh Dao gets children’s literature award

The Mata Jaswant Kaur Award for original writing of children’s literature was conferred upon Mohan Singh Dao for his book “Kirli ta Titli” at a function organised by the Punjabi Sahit Akademi at Punjabi Bhavan here today. He was presented a cheque for Rs10,000, a shawl and a citation.

270 examined at eye camp

An eye check-up and operation camp was organised at the Jammu Colony gurdwara here by the City Jaycees today. Nearly 270 patients were examined and given medicine free of cost. Of these, 28 were taken up for intraocular lens transplant.
