Philately may be introduced as subject
Chandigarh, March 20
Philately as part of school and college curricula across the country will soon be a reality. The Department of Posts has asked the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the respective state governments to take up philately as a subject, said the Director-General, Department of posts, Mr Vijay Bhushan, here today.

‘Close shave’ for student eating noodles

Vipul Tikku, a student of the University Institute of Engineering and Technology, got a shock today when he almost swallowed a piece of a shaving blade while eating Maggie noodles in the Hostel No. 2 mess of Panjab University. This led to a protest by the hostellers.

Papers filed for poll of Chandigarh Club
Chandigarh, March 20
The process of filing nominations for the elections in the Chandigarh Club ended yesterday with Mr Amarjit Singh Sethi and Mr Mukesh Bassi pitted against each other for the post of president. Elections in the prestigious club are scheduled for April 3.

Advani’s yatra to reach city on March 24
Chandigarh, March 20
The Bharat Uday Yatra of Mr Advani will reach the city after the completion of its first phase on March 24, which started from Kanyakumari. The yatra comes to the city from Kurukshetra. The Bharat uday rath will be first welcomed to the city by villagers of Hallo Majra with garlands and thereafter the yatra will be received at Tribune Chowk.

165 take part in Citigroup Golf Cup

The Chandigarh Golf Club today played host to the Citigroup Golf Cup-2004, in which 165 golfers competed on the lush-green lawns of the club. The one-day event, organised under the banner of Citi Gold Wealth Management, was the fifth golf tournament organised by the bank since the Centennial Cup in 2000. Ms Indu Aishwerya Anand, vice-president, corporate affairs, Citigroup, said the banking group was involved in brand promotion by organising sports events and social activities.
