12 held as village groups clash

Bogus vet caught with protected animal

Ludhiana, March 17 Ludhiana Range Wildlife officials and the police have caught a fake veterinarian for possessing civet, a protected animal. The secretions of this hill animal is used for making perfume. The Chinese Government had recently ordered the mass killing of the animal as it was found to be the main carrier of the deadly SARS virus. Dehlon police washes its hands of paper-leak case

Washing its hands off the paper leak controversy, the Dehlon police today referred the complaint of the District Education Officer (DEO), Ludhiana, about the leak of Class X maths paper to the Sangrur police for action.

Akalis join Lok Bhalai Party

The campaign of Mr Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, chief of the Lok Bhalai Party, got a shot in the arm after a large number of Akali leaders and workers joined his party at a function held at Khoom Kalan today. The SAD (Longowal) and the Akali Dal led by Mr Ravi Inder Singh have decided to support his candidature for the Ludhiana seat.

Four persons were injured in two attacks here yesterday. Some persons beat up Ajay Kumar when he said that India could lose the cricket match being played in Rawalpindi. He said eight to 10 persons attacked him, besides injuring Amrish Kumar Ashu and Amrit Pal Monty.

PAU alumni meet

It was a day of annual reunion for a dozen-odd students of 1951 batch of Punjab Agricultural University at the Parker House this morning. Of the 12 members who were present at the meeting, three had come from overseas. Prof Beant S. Ahloowalia a technology consultant from Vienna. He retired as a scientist from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Prior to this, he was with the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), Rome.

Juniors bid adieu to final-year students

MA Departments of Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, here hosted a farewell function. The highlight was a modeling contest for MA final-year students. Amandeep was declared Miss Farewell, while Sumandeep and Simarjot were the first and second runners-up. Gurpreet won the title of best-dressed student.
