Five Kapurthala cops booked for kidnapping youth
Ludhiana, March 14
The local police today booked eight persons, including five personnel of the Kapurthala police on the charge of kidnapping a city-based youth from Shimla Puri last evening. The policemen include a Sub-Inspector posted as additional SHO of the Kapurthala city police station.

Woman dies under mysterious circumstances

Bachni Devi, an old woman, died under mysterious circumstances in her house in Model Town last evening, even as her son, Mangal, went missing. Her body was sent to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination by the police today.

Four poor couples wedded

Ludhiana, March 14
It was a joyous day for four couples from the economically weaker section of society as their wedding was arranged by Maa Bhagwati Club and the Bharat Vikas Parishad (Shivaji branch). The ceremonies were conducted at Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Deep Nagar. Mr Surinder Dawar, MLA, blessed the couples.

Significance of Guru Granth Sahib stressed

Dr Jagbir Singh, former Professor, Delhi University, while presiding over the second day of the seminar on “Allround importance and significance of Sri Guru Granth Sahib” at Punjabi Sahit Akademi here today, stated that Guru Granth Sahib was both a cultural and a religious text.

200 animals treated
Ludhiana, March 14
An animal sterility and treatment camp was organised at Kaunke Kalan village here yesterday. Dr Kanwal Sharma, Senior Veterinary Officer, Jagraon, inaugurated the camp. Experts of Barundi Polytechnic, veterinary officers and pharmacist of Jagraon subdivision took part in the camp. About 200 animals were treated at the camp.

Four thieves arrested
Khanna, March 14
The police has busted a gang of thieves with the arrest of four persons involved in many theft cases. The police said a naka was laid near Ramgarh village where the four persons were nabbed. During interrogation the accused confessed to their involvement in many theft cases in the state.
