Punjab BJP creates new party districts

To strengthen its base, the Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to create eight more organisational districts by dividing the existing districts of Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala, Gurdaspur, Sangrur and Bathinda, Prof Rajinder Bhandari, general secretary of the party, said today.

Punjab to install 4,595 hand pumps

The Punjab Government has decided to install 4,595 modern hand pumps in 1,189 villages of the state that are yet to be provided piped water. The project will be completed at a cost of Rs 16 crore by March 31.

Ousted PPSC Chairman Ravinderpal Singh Sidhu will step out from the Central Jail tomorrow after being incarcerated there for 22 months with his lawyer saying that sureties to secure his bail would be furnished in the district courts tomorrow.

Punjab Vigilance Bureau today arrested Mukhtiar Singh, District Revenue Officer, Moga, while allegedly accepting illegal gratification of Rs 10,000 from a resident of Khalsa Kotla village in this district.

Robbery case solved, 5 lakh recovered
Patiala, January 20
A police party searched two youths carrying a gunny bag here last night and found it stacked with Rs 5 lakh currency notes. The money belonged to a local resident from whose house Rs 10 lakh in cash and gold ornaments had been stolen in a robbery an hour earlier.

Strike by college teachers today

After holding two meetings with the Punjab Chief Minister over the issue of restoring 95 per cent grant-in-aid and other demands of the teachers of non-government aided colleges of Punjab and Chandigarh, the Punjab and Chandigarh Teachers’ Union (PCCTU) today said it would observed a one-day strike tomorrow.
