St. Francis De Sales School off to winning start

New Delhi, January 16
St. Francis De Sales School, Janakpuri, registered a facile 2-0 victory against International Sports School, Geetanjali, in the under-14 section of the Kangaroo Cup Soccer Tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here today.

Vash Lagwal and Bharat Sethi scored the goals in the 10th and 15th minutes respectively.

In an under-17 match, Apex School trounced Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, 4-0. N Ningthoungama scored a brace while Prakash and Rajib contributed the other two goals.

Sarvodaya Co-Education School, Nanakpura, defeated Chiranjiv Bharati School, Palam Vihar 3-0. Ashutosh scored two goals, in the ninth and 20th minutes, while Gaurav contributed the third goal, in the 19th minute.

DSA to hold selection trials

The Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) will hold open trials-cum-coaching camp to select the Delhi team for participating in the Senior National Women’s Football Championship to be held at Bhopal from February 8.

The trials will begin on Monday, January 19, between 2 and 4 p.m. at the Kamla Nehru College ground, Siri Fort Road, New Delhi.

The DSA has also constituted a selection committee comprising physical directors of various colleges like Dr Saru Rohilla (Kamla

Rashmit Kaur qualifies for quarters

Rashmit Kaur defeated Vishka 15-1 to qualify for the quarter-final in the girls Class III and IV category for the final selection of the Indian Oil Badminton Talent Contest. In other matches in the same group, Prathana Narayanan beat Poonam 15-0 and Blooty Chaddha beat Anamika 15-10.

Following are the other results: Boys Class III and IV: Subhanshu Wahi b Shivam Sehgal 21-1, Karan Narang b Nipun Dhingra 21-9, Aadish b Rahul 21-0.

Vikas Chandan hits century

A fine unbeaten century (103) by Vikas Chandan and good bowling (3 for 25) by Ankit Bhargawa helped GG Dutt beat Young Association by 78 runs in a DDCA A-1 Division match at YSCI ground. Scores: GG Dutt: 212 for 8 in 40 overs (Vikas Chandan 103 n o, Kamal Bagga 32, Dharamender Singh 3 for 25).

Young Association: 134 all out in 28.2 overs (Rajat Bhardwaj 34, Amit Sharma 25, Ankit Bhargava 3 for 25, Anish Aggarwal 2 for 8) In another match, Rehman Club beat Century Club by 13 runs in an A-1 division at the Yamuna Sports Complex ground. United Academy enter final in AVIVA cricket

Fine knock of 86 runs by Manav Sharma and Varun Anand (56 and 50) and deadly bowling (5 for 19) by Vikas Mishra helped United Delhi Academy beat Sumit Dogra Academy by point basis and enter the final of the AVIVA Young Achiever (Under-13) Two day Cricket Tournament at NSC ground.

Kaif, Narender shine for Jheel

Fine unbeaten knock of (92) by Kaif Mohd. and unbeaten 71 runs and 3 for 25 by Narender Singh helped Govt School, Jheel beat Harry Academy by 8 wickets in the second Rajeev Gandhi Memorial under-17 tournament.

A fine knock of (70) runs by Piyush Negi and (53) by Aditya Aima and good bowling (4/46) by Parvinder Awana helped Dogra Academy beat Sonnet Club by 4 wickets and enter final of the 4th Shakuntla Devi Memorial Under-19 Cricket Tournament.

Piyush Negi was declared the man of the match. Dorgra Academy meet Government School, Jheel.

Scores: Sonnet Club: 209 all out in 39.5 overs (Ashwat Kumar 38, Akash Chauhan 35, Parvinder Awana 4/46, Mannu Kapoor 3/48).
