Spreading awareness on road safety
Ludhiana, January 9
With a view to create awareness regarding road safety and traffic rules, a continuous awareness campaign would be conducted involving District Transport Office, Traffic Police Educational Institutions and NGOs and more and more seminars would be conducted at the urban and rural areas to educate drivers regarding the safety measures.

Bravery award for Khud Mohalla fire hero
Ludhiana, January 9
Kartar Singh, alias Lucky, a hero of Khud Mohalla fire incident, has been given the 12th Red and White Bravery Award posthumously for showing extraordinary courage and saving the lives of many caught in fire.

Ms Jasbir Kaur and her son receive a bravery award from the Punjab Governor, Justice O.P. Verma, which was conferred on her husband Kartar Singh posthumously, a hero of Khud Mohalla fire.

Jathedars ‘should not issue suo motu notice’

The President of the SAD (A), Mr Simranjit Singh Mann, has said that Akal Takhat should not summon any Sikh directly after admitting a complaint against that person from any third party or by taking a suo motu notice.

Hospital canteen ransacked
Ahmedgarh, January 9
Members of a trust running affairs of a religious place, allegedly ransacked a canteen being run at a hospital adjoining the religious place and stole goods worth Rs 40,000. The police has registered a case. The victim has sought intervention of higher officials in the matter.

Kidnapping bid: 2 youths arrested
Khanna, January 9
The police has arrested two youths involved in a kidnapping attempt yesterday. The police said one of the accused was earlier an employee of the victim’s family. According to the police, two youths, Mewa Singh of Khanna and Balwinder Singh of Batala, reached a local school and tried to kidnap a student, Harmanjit Singh of Khattra village.

Mr Jasmail Singh, a farmer of Jagraon, was awarded at Singhawala village, near, here today for producing a maximum sugarcane yield per acre area in the state by adopting the ring-pit plantation method.

City skaters dominate in state skating championship
Ludhiana, January 9
Hosts Ludhiana and Amritsar skaters dominated the proceedings on the opening day the Punjab State Skating Championship which began at the Sarabha Nagar skating ring here today. More than 600 participants from all over the state are taking part in the three-day meet.

Inter-school cricket tournament from today
Ludhiana, December 9
The Ludhiana District Cricket Association is organising a week-long Parle-PCA Inter-School Cricket Tournament (U-17) here at the Satish Chander Dhawan Government College for Boys ground from January 10 to 16.
