City skaters dominate in state skating championship

Ludhiana, January 9
Hosts Ludhiana and Amritsar skaters dominated the proceedings on the opening day the Punjab State Skating Championship which began at the Sarabha Nagar skating ring here today. More than 600 participants from all over the state are taking part in the three-day meet. Dr Kirpal Singh Aulakh, Vice- Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University , inaugurated the championship.

On the opening day, competition in ring race I time trial was held and the boys and girls from the city and Amritsar proved too good for their rivals by clinching four titles each.

The following are the first results of the first day: Boys (eight to10 years)- Sawtantar Pal of Amritsar 1, Tanveer Singh of Amritsar 2, Kanwardeep of Ludhiana 3; (10 to 12 years)- Bandol Hans of Ludhiana 1, Yidhbir Singh of Amritsar 2, Jasmine Singh of Amritsar 3.

Boys (0 to six years)- Ravnoor Preet Singh of Mansa 1, Avnish Partap of Bathinda 2, Horesh Kalra of Mansa 3; (six to eight years)- Harshdeep Singh of Sangrur 1, Bhavneet Singh of Ludhiana 2; Sameer Sharma of Amritsar 3; (12 to 14 years)- Jivitesh Singh of Amritsar 1, Navdeep Singh of Amritsar 2, Vishal Pusha of Patiala 3; (above 14 years)- Iqbal Singh of Amritsar 1, Ramanpreet of Patiala 2, Gurvinder Singh of Patiala 3.

Girls (eight to 10 years)- Alisha Puri of Ludhiana 1, Abhra Arora of Amritsar 2, Kajal Singla of Patiala 3; (10 to 12 years)- Suranshi Thukral of Ludhiana 1, Rudhan Dhillon of Ludhiana 2, Karmika of Amritsar 3; (0 to six years)- Ramandeep Kaushal of Sangrur 1, Anmoldeep Kaur of Patiala 2, Sukhman Kaur of Sangrur 3.

Girls (six to eight years)- Simran Saggar of Ludhiana 1, Rinshiak of Ludhiana 2, Jaswinder Kaur of Amritsar 3; (12 to 14 years)- Aastha of Patiala 1, Jasneerat of Patiala 2, Manisha Sharma of Sangur 3; (above 14 years )- Kangan Mahajan of Amritsar 1, Smriti Singh of Amritsar 2, Aditi Singh of Patiala 3.

Inter-school cricket tournament from today

Ludhiana, December 9
The Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) is organising a week-long Parle-PCA Inter-School Cricket Tournament (U-17) here at the Satish Chander Dhawan Government College for Boys ground from January 10 to 16.

According to Mr Vinod Chitkara, honorary general secretary, LDCA, four teams namely Sanatan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Civil Lines, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Punjab Agricultural University, Nauhria Mal Jain Senior Secondary School, Ferozepur Road, and S D P Senior Secondary School, Hazoori Road, will take part in the tournament to be conducted under the aegies of the Punjab Cricket Association under its plan to spot the young promising players and prepare them for the future championships. The matches will be of 40-overs a team.

The winners of the tournament will qualify for the Parle-PCA Inter-District Championship slated to be held at the PCA stadium, Mohali, from January 17. In the inaugural match of this tournament, Sanatan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School will take on S D P Senior Secondary School at 9 am onwards, Mr Chitkara informed.

Softball trials

Ludhiana, January 9
Trials to select the Punjab softball probables (men and women) will be conducted at Ramgarhia Girls College, Miller Ganj, on January 11, at 11 am, according to Mr P N Passi, honorary secretary, Punjab Softball Association. The selected players will represent the state in the 25th Senior National Softball Championship slated to be held from January 28 to February 2 at Jaipur.
