Lanka defeat India ‘A’ in Commonwealth tourney

New Delhi, December 31
An all-round display by Kanchan Gunawardane (40 and 3 for 20) enabled Sri Lanka defeat India ‘A’ by 26 runs in the Commonwealth Cricket Under-19 Championship at the Devi Lal Stadium in Gurgaon. India ‘A’ won the toss and decided to field. The match was reduced to 36 overs a side due to heavy fog.

Scores: Sri Lanka: 36 overs (Kanchan Gunawardane 40, T Mosmulla 40, Amila 22, Ian Dev 2 for 27, Mayank Sharma 2 for 22).

India ‘A’: 136 in 35.4 overs (Soumick Chatterjee 39, Tapan Jain 31, K Gunawardane 3 for 20, Isuru Perera 2 for 31).

Rajeev Gupta hits ton

A strokeful century by Rajeev Gupta (108, 12x4) and all-round performance by Kaif Mohammad (37, 3x28) helped Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya (SBV) defeat Nehru Public School by 101 runs in a league match of the first NPS Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Scores: SBV: 209 for 9 in 30 overs (Rajeev Gupta 108, Kaif Mohd 37, Chiragjeet 4 for 19, Ankit Kumar 3 for 31).

NPS: 108 all out in 28.4 overs (Hitesh Tyagi 43, Deepak Kumar 32, Kaif Mohd 3 for 28, Rajeev Gupta 2 for 18).

Tourney for academies

The second Gulf Cup Under-11 Cricket Tournament for Academies will be held in Sharjah from January 2. Nine top teams, including the Madan Lal Academy of Delhi, will participate in the tournament. The other teams are from the UAE, Oman and Bahrain.

Ajeet Singh Cricket

The Sahibzada Ajeet Singh Cricket Tournament will be held from January 2 at the Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce ground at Pitampura. Sixteen teams will participate in the tournament.

Delhi Blues beat DTC

Delhi Blues defeated Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) by 59 runs in an A-I Division match of the DDCA League at the Yamuna Sports Complex ground.

Scores: Delhi Blues: 216 for 7 in 35 overs (Nitin Goel 90, Kunal Sethi 56, Haridas 3 for 31).

DTC: 157 all out in 38.3 overs (Kulvinder Singh 78, Ramesh Sharma 28, Robin Singh 3 for 13, Mukesh Diwan 3 for 30).

Manav Sharma stars in United Academy’s victory

A remarkable all-round display by Manav Sharma, who cracked 133 and then picked up 4 for 21, helped United Delhi Cricket Academy defeat DAV Shalimar Bagh by an innings and 33 runs in the Aviva Young Achiever Under-13 Cricket Tournament at the Ashok Vihar ground.

Scores: DAV Shalimar Bagh (1st innings): 161 for 6 in 46 overs declared (Prateek Kaushik 56 n o, Sandeep Kaushik 37, Gaurav Jindal 2 for 19). Second innings: 101 all out in 29.3 overs (Sandeep Kaushik 41, Ankit Dabas 33, Vikas Mishra 5 for 31, Manav Sharma 4 for 21).

United Delhi Academy (1st innings): 295 for 4 in 56 overs declared (Manav Sharma 133, 21x4; Shubham Gupta 85, 14x4; Kunal Nagpal 45, Ankit Dabad 2 for 90).

In another match, Bharat National Academy defeated Lal Bahadur Shastri Club by five wickets at the Bharat Nagar ground.

Scores: Shastri Club (1st innings): 252 for 7 in 47.4 overs declared (Siddarth Sharma 153, Keshav Kumar 32, Samarth Singh 2 for 23, Akshay Sharma 2 for 44). Second innings: 205 all out in 38 overs (Siddarth Sharma 64, Vikram Dahiya 46, Udit Kumar 30, Saurabh Nischal 3 for 45, Karandeep 3 for 48).

Mithun Manhas to lead Delhi one-day squad

Mithun Manhas will lead the Delhi one-day squad in the Ranji Trophy one-day matches to be played in Delhi in January.

Other members of the team are: Rajat Bhatia, Gautam Gambhir, Ajay Jadeja, Vijay Dahiya, Sarandeep Singh, Varun Kumar, Rahul Sanghvi, Sanjay Gill, Amit Bhandari, N S Negi, Sunil Joshi, Kunal Lal, Kuldeep Rawat and Arun Singh.

Delhi and District Cricket Association sports secretary Sunil Dev said the players will assemble at the Palam ground on Thursday at 11 am for net session.

Puneet Mehra shines in Williams Cricket

An all-round performance by Puneet Mehra (89 and 3 for 30) helped R P Academy defeat Najafgarh Sports Club by eight runs in a league match of the fifth R G Williams Memorial Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the Frank Anthony School ground.

Scores: R P Academy: 207 for 9 in 35 overs (Puneet Mehra 89, Varun Thakur 39, Pradeep Sangwan 4 for 21, Kunal Dalal 3 for 21).

Najafgarh: 199 all out in 33.5 overs (Dhanij Rathi 50, Pritam Kataria 39, Marudhar 3 for 48, Puneet Mehra 3 for 30).

Shakuntala Devi Tourney

Sachin Rana excelled with both bat and ball as R P Academy defeated Young Friends by 36 runs in a league match of the fourth Shakuntala Devi Dogra Memorial Under-19 Cricket Tournament at the Sumit Dogra Academy ground.

Scores: R P Academy: 141 all out in 29.3 overs (Sachin Rana 43, Arshad Masih 20 n o, Arjun Choudhary 3 for 16,Rakshit Pant 2 for 22, Ripu Daman 2 for 31).

Young Friends: 105 all out in 25.2 overs (Sumit Poria 34, Arshad Masih 3 for 6, Sachin Rana 3 for 20, Puneet Mehra 2 for 18).

Delhi down UP, annex cricket title

Delhi trounced Uttar Pradesh by 10 wickets to annex the title in a limited-over tournament organised by the Delhi Cricket Association for Disabled.

Scores: UP: 90 all out in 15 overs (Siddarth 36, Santosh 21, Baljinder 3 for 21, Raju Kumar 2 for 11, Gynander Dayal 3 for 18).

Delhi: 91 without loss in 12 overs (Gynander Dayal 41 n o, Raju Sharma 38 n o).

Sidharth Shah of UP was adjudged the best batsman, Baljinder Singh of Delhi the best bowler, Gynander Dayal of Delhi the man of the series and Raju Sharma of Delhi the best all-rounder. Vinod of UP got the best fielder award.

In the league matches, Delhi had beaten UP by 17 runs, Haryana by 29 runs and lost to Haryana by five runs.

NIIT short change HDFC Bank

NIIT defeated HDFC Bank by four wickets and entered the semi-final of the seventh DG Phadkar Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Teri Oval.

Scores: HDFC Bank: 124 for 5 in 20 overs (Deepak Sharma 34, Vinay Kumar 49 n o, Vikas 2 for 15). NIIT: 125 for 6 in 20 overs (Ashish Guha 55, Girish Sharma 2 for 35, Sant Ram 2 for 28).

Champion Colleges Hockey

The 11th Nehru Champion Colleges Hockey Tournament, jointly organised by the Association of Indian Universities and the Jawaharlal Nehru Hockey Tournament Society, will be held at the Shivaji Stadium from February 11 to 20.

The 16 colleges participating in the tournament are the eight finalists of the four Inter-University Zonal Tournaments and eight colleges selected on the basis of their track record. The tournament carries a cash prize of Rs 2.20 lakh. DAV College, Jalandhar and Govt. Brijindra College, Faridkot are the defending champions and runners-up of the tournament.

T N Colts beat Central Bank

Tilak Nagar (TN) Colts defeated Central Bank of India by 109 runs in an A-I Division match of the DDCA League at the RSC ground.

Scores: T N Colts: 193 for 9 in 40 overs (Sachin Kumar 54, Vikas Ranaday 30, Somnath 30, Sant Kumar 2 for 18, Ankit Rawat 2 for 31).

Central Bank: 84 all out in 32.3 overs (Nitin Saini 25, Sachin Kumar 4 for 3, Gurjeet Singh Obrai 3 for 14).

GAIL sail into PSPB cricket final

New Delhi: Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) defeated MRPL by 64 runs and entered the final of the PSPB Cricket Tournament at the Harbaksh Singh Stadium.

Scores: Gail: 209 for 9 in 35 overs (Akash 36, Rajesh 34, Satish 38, D P Singh 35, Lakshmi Narayan 4 for 19). MRPL: 145 all out in 30.4 overs (Harish Damodar 31, M Joy 43 n o, Vimal 5 for 29).

In another match, Engineers India Ltd (EIL) defeated CPCL by 51 runs and entered the semi-final.

Scores: EIL: 201 for 3 in 35 overs (Munish Jolly 40 n o, Sanjay Nagpal 45, Chatar Singh 42, Birender Sharma 41, D Murti 2 for 37).

CPCL: 150 all out in 32.3 overs (S Venkataraman 56, Rajesh Khanna 30, M Jolly 4 for 14, S Nagpal 3 for 19, V Sharma 2 for 20).

Indian Oil draw with IHF Juniors

Indian Oil converted a penalty stroke at the fag end to draw with IHF Juniors 2-2 in the Chatrapati Shivaji Hockey Tournament for the Dhyan Chand Cup at the Shivaji Stadium on Wednesday. The IHF Juniors were locked in a draw for second consecutive match in Group B.

Prem put the IHF Juniors in the lead in the 22nd minute.

Jarnail Singh enhanced the lead in the second half. Indian Oil hit back when Bikramjit converted a penalty corner and then made use of a penalty stroke to level the score. OSR
