Fair sex cries for a fair deal in Faridabad
Faridabad, December 28
While the year gone by proved quite tough for the fair sex as the crime rate against women did not register a fall, the period also saw decreasing sex ratio in the area. The police were able to recover about half a dozen girls trafficked from other states, with the help of an NGO based here. As Haryana has been one of those states in the country where the sex ratio had declined sharply over the past several years, it was the main reason of the enforcement of the PNDT Act here.

Tributes were paid to 39 jawans who lost their lives fighting in various operations across the country at the 64th Anniversary Celebrations of the CRPF here today. The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr I. D. Swami, decorated 50 officers and jawans with gallantry and distinguished medals. He also presented the best group centre trophy to GC Jallandhar, best battalion trophy to 22nd Battalion, best operational battalion in Jammu and Kashmir to the 114th Battalion, best battalion in North East to the 53rd Battalion and the best cost effective and financial discipline trophy to the 124th Battalion.

BJP warns against hike in water tariff

The BJP has cautioned the Government of NCT of Delhi against increasing the water tariff. A member of Lok Sabha from the Chandni Chowk parliamentary in Delhi, Vijay Goel on Sunday said the Sheila Dikshit Ministry should concentrate on better financial management instead of increasing the water tariff.

Delhi bagged the team golds in boththe boys and girls under-19 section in the National School Games Tennis Championship at the Chattrasal Stadium on Sunday. Delhi defeated Chandigarh by 2-0 margins in both the boys and girls’ finals. In the individual events, Vivek Shaukeen of Delhi defeated team-mate Siddharth Gulati 7-6, 6-0 to annex the gold. Sanaa Bhambri defeated Parul Goswami 6-1, 6-0 to lift the girls’ title, in an all-Delhi clash.

A fine knock by Jagrit Anand and deadly bowling by Puneet Anand helped Delhi defeat Haryana by 72 runs and enter the final of the National Schools Vinoo Mankad Under-16 Cricket Tournament at the Bharat Nagar ground on Sunday. Chandigarh defeated Assam by three wickets at the Vikaspuri ground and will now take on Delhi in the title clash. Scores: Delhi: 139 for 6 in 22 overs (Jagrit Anand 38, Rohit Sharma 26, Rahul Yadav 25). Haryana: 67 all out in 19.2 overs (Manish Kumar 24, Puneet Anand 3 for 17, Sawan Saini 2 for 17).

New Delhi: The sixth Chatrapati Shivaji All-India Hockey Tournament for the Dhyan Chand Cup will be held at the Shivaji Stadium from December 30 to January 6. Top eight teams will compete in the tournament, which is intended to create awareness for pulse polio and HIV/AIDS.
