Vivek Shaukeen, Sanaa Bhambri bag tennis golds

New Delhi, December 28
Delhi bagged the team golds in boththe boys and girls under-19 section in the National School Games Tennis Championship at the Chattrasal Stadium on Sunday. Delhi defeated Chandigarh by 2-0 margins in both the boys and girls’ finals. In the individual events, Vivek Shaukeen of Delhi defeated team-mate Siddharth Gulati 7-6, 6-0 to annex the gold. Sanaa Bhambri defeated Parul Goswami 6-1, 6-0 to lift the girls’ title, in an all-Delhi clash.

Delhi defeated Rajasthan 13-5 to setup a title clash against Haryana in the under-14 boys handball competition. Haryana defeated Chandigarh 30-25. In the under-14 girls section, Haryana defeated Chhattisgarh 16-13 to enter the final.

Kerala pipped Delhi to annex the chess gold. In judo for under-14 girls, Latika of Delhi won the gold in the 44kg category. Nidhi of Gujarat and Geeta (Rajasthan) and Shiksha (Haryana) bagged the silver and bronze, respectively. Sandeep of Delhi collected the gold in the 50kg weight of the under-14 boys competition. Nathu Ghosh of West Bengal and Krishan Saini of Haryana took the silver and bronze, respectively.

Garima of Uttar Pradesh won the 61kg gold in the under-17 girls section. Priyanka (Chandigarh) and Sheela (Delhi) and Neetu Bala (Rajasthan) accounted for the silver and bronze. In the plus 61kg category, Devi Shri of Karnataka won the gold. She was followed by Amrinder Kaur of Chandigarh and Daman Preet (Delhi) and Nisha (Haryana).

In the under-17 boys section, Gaurav of Delhi lifted the gold in the 65kg, with Ashok of Karnataka and Joyson P J (Kerala) and Bachhu Lal (UP) settling for the silver and bronze. In the 71kg, Ashok Kumar of Delhi finished first, followed by Ajay of Haryana and Baniwal Lal (Rajasthan) and Baijral Bali (UP). In the under-19 boys category, Satvinder of Haryana clinched the 71kg gold. Jagdeep of Rajasthan and Mohit Kumar (UP), and Tejpal Singh (Delhi) won the other medals. In the 71kg, Ganesh Yadav of UP bagged the gold. Sahil Gogi of Delhi won the silver while the bronze was shared between Prateek Jain (Gujarat) and Arif Iqbal (Jammu and Kashmir). In the under-19 girls 61kg bout, Mansi of Delhi lifted the gold. Megha (Raj), Nisha (Har) and Vidhi (MP) took the other medals.

Delhi beat Haryana, enter final

New Delhi: A fine knock by Jagrit Anand and deadly bowling by Puneet Anand helped Delhi defeat Haryana by 72 runs and enter the final of the National Schools Vinoo Mankad Under-16 Cricket Tournament at the Bharat Nagar ground on Sunday. Chandigarh defeated Assam by three wickets at the Vikaspuri ground and will now take on Delhi in the title clash. Scores: Delhi: 139 for 6 in 22 overs (Jagrit Anand 38, Rohit Sharma 26, Rahul Yadav 25). Haryana: 67 all out in 19.2 overs (Manish Kumar 24, Puneet Anand 3 for 17, Sawan Saini 2 for 17).

Delhi make clean sweep

Delhi bagged the gold medals in all the nine weight categories in the National School Games Wrestling Championship for Boys Under-14.

Following are the complete results: 25kg: Amit (Delhi, gold), Manju Nath (Karn., silver) and Rohit (Chd., bronze). 30kg: Yogesh (Delhi), Anup (Haryana) and Gopal (MP). 32kg: Jitender (Delhi), Sunil (Haryana) and Jogender (Chd.). 38kg: Surender (Delhi), Anil (Haryana), Mohsin Khan (MP). 45kg: Manjeet (Delhi), Partveen (Haryana), Shidapa (Karn). 49kg: Sukhvinder (Delhi), Lalit (Haryana) and Sarvesh (Orissa). 55kg: Jaiveer (Delhi), Amit (Haryana) and Manish Mali (Rajasthan). 60kg: Ashok (Delhi), Anil (Haryana) and Gyanchand(UP). Frank Anthony School record facile victory

A devastating 4 for 10 bowling spell by Aditya Saini and a dashing half century by Rohan Tuteja helped Frank Anthony Public School defeat Chetan Sharma Academy by nine wickets in a league match of the Maj Gen R G Williams Memorial Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the Frank Anthony School ground.

Batting first, the Chetan Sharma Academy were bundled out for 117 with Aditya Saini and Arpit Upadhyay firing on all cylinders. The Sharma Academy would have been in a worse plight, save for the brief resistance of K Bhaskar and Kapil Kumar, who scored 32 and 31 runs respectively. In reply, Frank Anthony Public School raced to the victory target in just 19.3 overs with Rohan Tuteja and Sarthak Khatri producing blazing knocks. Scores: Chetan Sharma Academy: 117 all out in 34.5 overs (K Bhaskar 32, Kapil Kumar 31, Aditya Saini 4 for 10, Arpit Upadhyay 3 for 22). Frank Anthony Public School: 120 for 1 in 19.3 overs (Rohan Tuteja 57 n.o., Sarthak Khatri 45).

Saurav Sharma cracks unbeaten century

A brilliant knock of 117, off just 100 balls with 11 boundaries and four sixes, by Saurav Sharma and an all-round display by Amitoze Singh (84, 2 for 26) helped Dronacharya Cricket Foundation defeat Gyan Bharati South Delhi Academy by 84 runs in a league match of the Shakuntala Devi Memorial Under-19 Cricket Tournament at the Sumit Dogra Academy ground at the Yamuna Sports Complex. Scores: Dronacharya: 274 for 5 in 40 overs (Saurav Sharma 117 n o, Amitoze Singh 84, Paramjeet Singh 2 for 54). Gyan Bharati Academy: 190 all out in 35.1 overs (Ankur Julka 73 n.o., Surya Vardhan Azad 41, Surjeet Bedi 3 for 46, Shashank Tyagi 2 for 20, Amitoze Singh 2 for 26).

Surender Dayma shines

An all-round display by Surender Dayma (5 for 36 and 43) and a fine knock of 68 by Anish Aggarwal helped G G Dutt beat MTNL by four wickets in an A-II Division match of the DDCA League at the Mohan Meakins ground.

Scores: MTNL: 140 for 8 in 35 overs (Varun Sharma 91 n.o., Surender Dayma 5 for 36, Ankit Bhargava 2 for 24).

G G Dutt: 142 for 6 in 29 overs (Anish Aggarwal 68, Surender Dayma 43, Sanjeev Khanna 2 for 34, R S Rawat 2 for 36).

Shivaji Hockey from Tuesday

New Delhi: The sixth Chatrapati Shivaji All-India Hockey Tournament for the Dhyan Chand Cup will be held at the Shivaji Stadium from December 30 to January 6. Top eight teams will compete in the tournament, which is intended to create awareness for pulse polio and HIV/AIDS.

Namdhari XI, Ludhiana will take on Delhi XI in the opening match on Tuesday at 2.30 p.m.

The teams participating in the tournament are: Indian Airlines, Indian Hockey Federation (Juniors), Air India, Punjab and Sind Bank, Sikh Regimental Centre and Central Reserve Police Force.

The tournament committee will also honour two senior sports journalists for their contribution for the enrichment of sports in the Capital. OSR
