INAUGURATED: Mayor Sunil Datti inaugurated a recharging-well in the Chheharta locality of the city here on Saturday. Fourteen more wells were proposed to be installed in the city, he said. The wells help raise water-level and channelise rainwater.

SUPPORT FOR CM: Senior Congress leaders here supported Captain Amarinder Singh’s crusade against corruption. Ms Ratna, Chairperson Improvement Trust said that the dissidents must sink their differences.

ALLEGED: Mr Inderpal Khanna, president, of the Management Committee of Siri Ram Kanya Mahavidyalya High School alleged that an employee who was removed for misconduct, was being patronised by a ruling party leader.

2 PICKPOCKETS HELD: Mr S.K. Ahluwalia, Deputy Commissioner and Mr Shiv Kumar SSP, said at a joint press conference held here on Sunday said the two pick- pockets were arrested during the Jor Mela and four purses were also recovered from their possession. At a raid on a gambling stall four gamblers were arrested and an amount worth Rs 26,675 was confiscated from their possession. Four Nihang Singhs were rounded up for selling “bhang” an intoxicant.

BJP CHIEF: Mr Bhagwant Kishore Gupta was elected president of the Hoshiarpur district BJP unit on Saturday.

MP’s counsel: Mr Ashwani Kumar, Rajya Sabha member from Punjab, said here yesterday that crisis in the Punjab Congress could affect party’s prospects in the general elections. He appealed to the dissidents to resolve dispute with the Chief Minister. He also criticised the statement of Chief Election Commissioner J.M. Lyngdoh on political leaders.

BATA PROJECT: Ms Hirender Hira, Principal Secretary, Irrigation and Public Health Department, Himachal said on Saturday that Rs 3 crore had been sanctioned for the channelisation of Bata River flowing in the Paonta area.

SAINIK REST HOUSE: Budget proposals of Rs 17.33 lakh for the construction of a Sainik Rest House at Paonta Sahib was sent to the Secretary to the Himachal Government in November by the Director Sainik Welfare Hamirpur for approval, a spokesperson of the HP Ex-servicemen Congress Welfare Association said.
