Punjab Recorders closed down
100 employees lose jobs
Mohali, December 16
Punjab Recorders Ltd, a unit being run by the Punjab Government in the Phase VIII Industrial Area here, was shut down today and employees were given cheques under the VRS scheme in Chandigarh.

Sumati Mehta to be new housing board chief
Chandigarh, December 16
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs, in a late evening order shifted the Chairman of the Chandigarh Housing Board and the Chairman of the Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (CITCO), Mr G.K. Marwah, and replaced him with Ms Sumati Mehta.

Four flee from police custody, 3 re-arrested
Kharar, December 16
Four of six accused, who had been brought to the judicial courts in connection with a hearing, fled from the custody of the Ropar police here today. However, three of them were caught by the local police after about an hour.

Arora’s son, grandson sent for lie-detection test
Panchkula, December 16
Working on different theories in an effort to solve the triple murder of the Arora family, the Panchkula police today sent suspects Dr Vinod Arora and Amit to Madhuban for lie-detection tests on them. The two were taken there by the Station House Officer, Sector 5, this morning.

Upsurge in investment as shares rally

Investors in the city are once again coming back to the stock market to cash in on the ongoing boom. Though a large number of them had burned their fingers during the previous rally in the capital market, a segment of them is ready to take the risk. Brokers claim that the success of Maruti, banking shares, and now of Indraprastha Gas stocks has encouraged the investors to try their luck.

Mr MS Malik, AIG (Welfare) Haryana, including Mr Jagwant Singh Lamba, DSP, Mr Mehar Singh, a stenographer to SP, Yamunanagar, Head Constable Raj Pal, posted at Ambala and Mr Hardeep Singh Jaggi, a property dealer, appeared before Mr Inder Singh, SDM of Panchkula, here today.

Sanitation work found unsatisfactory
Mohali, December 16
During a special checking carried out by the Municipal Council here today the sanitation work was not found to be satisfactory in certain parts of the town and even the required number of employees had not been engaged by the sanitation contractor.

Surya Pharmaceuticals to enter capital market

Surya Pharmaceuticals is entering the capital market with an initial public offering (IPO) of 30 lakh equity shares of Rs 10 each for cash at a premium of Rs 35 each aggregating Rs 13.50 crore. The IPO is slated to open on Thursday.

More than two years after an empowered committee to handle the electric trolley bus project was formed, a final decision is now to be taken if the city needs such a bus system or not. CTU fares to go up

CTU buses fares will rise marginally as the Chandigarh Administration today raised the rates to be paid by buses on a per kilometre basis. The rates will be applicable to even inter-state buses but the CTU will be affected the most.
