Doctors’ admission to PG courses quashed

The admission of Haryana Civil Medical Services (HCMS) doctors to various post-graduate courses like MD/MS/PG Diplomas in the PT B D Sharma Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Science (PGDMS) for the year 2003 has been quashed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

MLAs step aside, ask Sonia to nominate CM
New Delhi, December 9
The Congress Legislature Party in Delhi has asked the party’s president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, to nominate a person of her choice as Chief Minister of NCT of Delhi. The CLP, which met in the evening, deliberated for an hour before adopting a resolution that authorised Mrs Gandhi to nominate its leader who will become the chief minister.

Three copper wire robbers gunned down by police 
Ghaziabad, December 9
The Ghaziabad police have shot dead three criminals who were fleeing after looting copper wire worth Rs 5 lakh from a Hapur electrical trader’s godown. The encounter had taken place early in the morning near Khichra village under Mussori police station. The police claimed to have seized one rifle, two local revolvers and about two dozen live cartridges from the desperadoes who could not be identified till late in the evening.

An amount of Rs 36,46,96,776 on account of electricity and water charges and an amount of Rs 2,70,62,77,178 on account of licence fee of the premises, including interest accrued on unpaid license fee, are outstanding against various government departments as on November 30, 2003.

GIA to petition Chautala on stopping land acquisition
Gurgaon, December 9
Stumped by the government’s decision to go ahead with its plan to acquire land in Begumpur Khatola, Narsinghpur and Khandsa villages, where large number of industries are in operation, the Gurgaon Industrial Association (GIA) will approach Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala to procure veto against the move.

Delhi Govt demands Rs 7 cr from MCD for using global info system

The Delhi Government has demanded Rs 7 crore from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for the use of Global Information System (GIS) which will help detect and prevent unauthorised construction in the National Capital, sources said.

Bodies of teacher, sons recovered
Sonepat, December 9
The police have succeeded in recovering the bodies of a schoolteacher and his two sons from JLN Canal near Barauta village on the Sonepat-Gohana road 142 hours after they drowned in it. According to a report, the police handed over the bodies to the parents of the schoolteacher after the post-mortem examination.

Cashier in LIC office robbed of Rs 9 lakh
Rewari, December 9
Armed youths robbed around Rs 9 lakh from a cashier of the Life Insurance Corporation of India at revolver-point in Brass Market here last evening. They sped away with the booty in an Indica car parked outside the building of the LIC office.

Liquor shop salesman killed
Loni(Ghaziabad), December 9
A salesman at the country liquor shop at Behta village in Loni was strangled to death. Criminals later looted the shop and decamped with Rs 5000 in cash. Deepak was working as a salesman in the country liquor shop owned by Nitin in Behta village. Deepak, who hailed from Rampur, used to sleep in the liquor shop at night.

Miscreants drive away with car at gunpoint 
Sonepat, December 9
Three unidentified armed miscreants are reported to have taken away a car from Mr Nirankar Tyagi, a resident of K.D. Nagar, Ganaur, 16 km from here, last night. According to a report, Mr Tyagi along with his two friends was travelling in the car from Sonepat to Ganaur.

The railway police of the Crime Branch today claimed to have arrested a gang of robbers in the Sarai Rohilla railway station. The police also claimed to have seized a countrymade weapon and three knives from their possession.

30,000 new SIM cards for Rohtak: BSNL chief
Rohtak, December 9
The Chief General Manager of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Haryana, Mr A. K. Nagpal, today assured the BSNL mobile consumers that the shortage of its SIM cards would be overcome as 30,000 new sim cards would be made available within two or three days.

Essay competition on copying menace

The Board of School Education, Haryana, is organising an essay competition on the menace of copying as part of its campaign to eradicate it from society.  Disclosing this, the board spokesperson said the competition was being organised under two categories, one for teachers of schools in the state affiliated to the board on the topic of “Shikshak Ka Elan, Nakal Par Puran Viram” and the second for the public on the topic of “Nakal Bachon Mein Vikas Ki Nahin, Kunthaon Ki Janani Hai”.

Gojan Singh races to gold in Police Athletics

Gojan Singh and Naresh Kumar of Border Security Force made a one-two in the 5000-metre race of the 52nd All-India Police Athletic Championship at the Dronacharya Stadium at BSF Campus, Chawla. Gojan posted a time of 14:57.3 secs to win the gold. He was closely followed by Naresh Kumar to lift the silver while Aman Saini of Punjab annexed the bronze.
