Bizarre: In sync with your soul
Smriti Kak

Winter collection of BizarreFor the Winter 2003, Bizarre has fused, “the formality of eveningwear with the practical chic of denim”. The collection claims Bizarre is, “very warm, alive and dazzling”. Talking about the collection, Puja Mehra Gupta, design head and brain behind Bizarre, says: “This season the collection is eclectic. Day lends into night. Bright fuses with the subtle to create a look of total harmony. It is in sync with your soul. And flashing the brilliance of your real persona”.

Bizarre has experimented with true blue denims, bringing in surface sheens, textures, sequined motifs, tassels and other elements to turn a simple pair of blue jeans into a true blue fashion statement. The design team offers that the collection is for those who are “not slaves of fashion. And, be it a classic, chic or sensual statement, the eclectic range by Bizarre offers something for every mood.”

They point out: “There are two stories that run through the collection. One of studied casualness. And the other that spells out the romance in formal dressing”. In the casual collection, there are shirts in stretch and linen, impeccably tailored jackets that lend formality to chic linen shirts and jersey tops. Trousers too follow a host of styles, asymmetrical Skirts, Boot-legged casuals, Sporty Capris, fitted cigarette pants, besides a wide range of formal nine to five feel pants: Single pleated, cigarette styled and off course the second skin fitted ones in soft leather.

Jersey tops and long fish cut denim skirts cater to casual morning look. Nautical stripes, broad and thin, multi-coloured checks blend with bold prints, as fabrics get pleated and pin-tucked to create a feel of formality. The colour palette used this season has been extensive.

Pepe Jeans London has this to say about their winter collection, “The exquisite winter wear collection reconfirms that temptation is not always sin and one can give into cravings, when variety is unlimited and spirits are high.”

The makers go on to add that they are offering the “latest, chic and stylish merchandise” for the “fashion conscious this season”. If you are wondering what makes the “collection”, it is pullovers, reversible jackets, flat knits, turtlenecks and denim jackets.

The colour palette is vibrant with wine, olive, charcoal, indigo blue and ecru.

A textile treasure trove from Bhopal

A blend of two equally evolved craft forms, the finest of weave techniques from Madhya Pradesh blended and block printing is what Aarohi, a textile treasure trove from Bhopal is all about. Brainchild of two textile designer sisters - Ranjana and Namrita Singh, Aaroshi will be in the Capital in the form of an exhibition featuring limited edition of block printed Maheshwaris and Tussars.

The collection will be on at Dastakar Exhibition Hall, Shahpur Jat, on December 12 and 13. Delving deep into the rich Indian textile story, the designers have employed the creative resources of a few master weavers to weave the finest of Maheshwaris, Chanderis and Tussars in an innovative palette.

Having found patrons in stores like Nalli, Mrignayni and Hast-shilpi, Ranjana and Namrata through their exhibition, are taking their craft further to create 200 limited edition pieces.

Says Ranjana, “Madhya Pradesh has so many master weavers whose families thrived under the tutelage of the Holkars and Scindias. We have selected the best of the talents to not just weave but also block prints.”

Namrata on her part adds, “What we have created are contemporary designs for the modern working woman. Underplayed and classic”. Apart from casual block printed textiles, there are also formal, evening saris and textiles.
