A man was shot by two armed assailants at noon today outside the advocates’ chambers in the district court complex. Hearing the gunshots, panic spread on the court premises. The deceased, Rambhool, was facing trial in a murder case.

Authorities accused of arbitrary selection of demolition targets
Gurgaon, November 11
The demolition spree by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has given rise to a number of controversies. Last evening, the Town and Country Planning Department wing of HUDA demolished about a score of shops in village Silokhara, adjacent to the posh South City area (Sector 45) in the city. The shops were located on land owned by the president of the ‘All India Brahman Sabha’, Mr Mange Ram Sharma and Mr Hari Ram Sharma-both brothers.

Bangladeshi gang busted; six women held

The East and North-East districts police today busted a gang of Bangladeshi criminals, including six women associates. They were involved in the sensational robbery case of Vivek Vihar where they had broken open the main gate, tied old couples and looted lakhs of rupees and valuables.

Loni trader kidnapped, beaten up
Ghaziabad, November 11
A Loni trader was kidnapped here by four masked criminals travelling in a Maruti van. After looting Rs 35,000 from him, they demanded another Rs 50,000 from the trader as price for setting him free.

Five held for inter-state currency racket

The police today claimed to have busted an inter-state gang engaged in circulating the fake currency notes in the urban and rural areas of this district and even in other states for the past few months.

17 set free by Lok Adalat
Ghaziabad, November 11
The Lok Adalat freed 17 prisoners undergoing different sentences in the district. Two Bangladeshi nationals were among the 17 freed by the court. In the Lok Adalat held in Dasna area in the criminal court III under Judicial Magistrate Satya Prakash, 36 cases came up for hearing, in which 17 accused serving prison terms for trivial offences were set free.
