Two die as shell explodes in scrap dealer’s shop
Panchkula, October 3
Two persons were killed and at least two others injured, one of them seriously, when a misfired bomb shell in scrap exploded in a scrap dealer’s shop along the busy Ambala-Kalka-Shimla National Highway here this evening. The explosion took place around 7.50 p.m.

7.10 lakh stolen by breaking car window
Chandigarh, October 3
Three youths broke a rear window of a car parked outside a nursing home in Sector 19 and took away Rs 7.10 lakh kept in two packets on the rear seat here today. However, they were not able to take away a sum of Rs 1.90 lakh, which was kept in a separate packet.

The UT Administration has appointed four food inspectors whose qualification for holding the post had come under scrutiny after the court had passed a order, stating that they had not undergone proper training as per the Central Government rules.

The first meeting of the committee formed by the Punjab Government to formulate a fresh policy to regulate land use in Chandigarh’s periphery under the Punjab New Capital (Periphery) Control Act, 1952, was held here today.

Housing plan for Sec 63 okayed

A scheme of Chandigarh Housing Board to construct more than 2,000 houses of all categories — HIG, MIG, LIG and EWS categories in Sector 63 has been approved by the Planning Department. The scheme would be notified for the public within one month.
