DU students held for classmate’s murder

With the arrest of five persons, including two students of Delhi University, the North-West district police today claimed to have solved the kidnapping-cum-murder of Tarun Bharadwaj, alias Chintu (18), a first year student of Satyawati college of Delhi University.

The residents of Capital can now file applications online for securing various certificates issued by the office of deputy commissioner. They can also receive notification on government tenders and check their passport status on the Delhi Government portal.

A murder every alternate day in Ghaziabad

Every alternate day a murder takes place in Ghaziabad.
In September alone there have been 16 murders in Ghaziabad with the merchants of death targeting rural areas with impunity. A cop’s brother-in-law was murdered on September 1 in Pratap Vihar.

Education scheme for disabled by November

The Central government has assured the Delhi High Court that it will frame by November a comprehensive education scheme for the benefit of more than 20 million disabled children in the country.

JNU unveils election schedule

The election to the students union in Jawaharlal Nehru University will take place on October 20.
The dates for filing the nominations are October 8 and 9, the dates for withdrawal are October 10 and 11 and the list of final names will be put up on October 12.

Property worth thousands gutted in ITDC hotel
New Delhi, October 3
Property worth thousands of rupees was gutted in a fire that broke out in Hotel Ranjit here this afternoon.
The fire broke out on ground floor of the building around 2 pm. It engulfed the first and second floors of the building as well.

Widows rebuffed on Gandhi Jayanti
Faridabad, October 3
Inept handling led to at least 200 women, mostly widows, being rebuffed at a state-level function held to mark the Gandhi Jayanti at Palwal yesterday.
More than 200 poor women had been invited to attend the function and told that each one of them would receive a 50 kg flour bag and a sewing machine.

Unauthorised structures razed on govt’s instruction: Commissioner

The Municipal Commissioner, Mr Rakesh Mehta, claimed that jhuggi clusters and other unauthorised constructions were being demolished on the basis of policy formulated by the government. He said this when councillors objected to the demolitions in different areas of the Capital.

Mr Vijay Somany, convenor of Rashtriya Navchetna (a prominent voluntary organisation of South Haryana) and newly appointed chairman of the Rewari Improvement Trust, has called upon the people of Rewari region to extend support to the Rashtriya Navchetna’s struggle which aimed at demolishing the hegemony of casteist politicians which was the root cause of the backwardness of Rewari, Mr Somany asserted.

Old man’s body found on railway track
Sonepat, October 3
The Government Railway Police found the body of an unidentified aged man (65), lying on the track near the railway station here last night. According to a report, the victim was crossing the track when he was hit by a goods train. The GRP has sent the body for a postmortem examination.

Armyman held for extortion
New Delhi, October 3
The Mandir Marg police have arrested an armyman for his alleged involved in an extortion case. A resident of New Rajender Nagar, Rohit Jolly (35), complained to the police that on September 7 around 11.15 pm, one person asked him for a lift as he reached Shivaji Stadium.
