Ministry directed to pay dues to MES Valvemen

In a significant judgement favouring thousands of persons employed as Valvemen with Military Engineering Services(MES) in various units of the Army in North India, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), has directed the Ministry of Defence and five other departments to pay them grants of grade of Rs 260-400 with all consequential benefits from October 16, 1981, notionally as given to other Valvemen.

Fire in kiosks creates panic at Mansa Devi

Fire broke out in two kiosks near Mata Mansa Devi shrine this evening. The incident happened at around 6.45 pm today, when a piece of cloth hanging near a gas chullah in a kiosk owned by Balak Ram, near the temple, caught fire.

Cop hurts self while servicing pistol

A Head Constable of the Chandigarh Police today received bullet injuries in his stomach when his pistol went off accidentally while he was servicing it in his official vehicle stationed on the Dakshin Marg near the Sector 33 petrol station.

PANJAB University needs to exercise more care in drafting and handling cases framed against students for using unfair means in the examinations. Panchkula lads enter under-15 cricket final
Chandigarh, September 29
Panchkula boys continued with their winning spree when they humbled Faridabad by 15 runs to enter the final of the Haryana state Inter-District Under-15 cricket tournament being played at Rohtak. The Panchkula boys led by Anupam Gambhir did well with both bat and bowl. After winning the toss Panchkula had opted to bat first.

10-yr-old city golfer finishes runner-up 
Chandigarh, September 29
Ten-year-old K. Raghav Bhandari finished runner-up in the Noida Junior/Sub-Junior Golf Tournament held at Noida from September 23 to 26 under the aegis of the Indian Golf Union. The tournament saw a close contest between Raghav and Virat Badhwar of Delhi, who was able to take the lead from Raghav by just one stroke. Raghav’s total score over 54 holes was 257, whereas that of Virat was 256.

Garbage treatment plant mooted

The Administration will acquire at least 13 acres of land falling between Dadumajra village and Sector 25 for the purpose of setting up a garbage treatment plant in the city which will generate electricity.
