Steel price hike issue politicised?

The issue of rising steel prices seems to be getting politicised, at least in Punjab, with the Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU), a leading representative organisations of traders and industrialists, seeking the help of former Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) supremo Parkash Singh Badal to raise the issue with the Prime Minister, Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in New Delhi. Mr Badal had led a delegation of CICU that had met the Prime Minister in New Delhi on August 23.

Shiv Sainiks burn effigy of LeT

BSNL mobile services hit

The cellular services of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) remained suspended today as its main server reportedly developed some technical snag. Despite efforts no senior BSNL official could be contacted.

2 held with stolen scooter
Ludhiana, August 27
The Model Town police has registered a case under Section 411 of the IPC on the statement of Chand Kishore, a resident of Field Ganj, against Roop Singh, a resident of Dhandra village, and Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Maksudra village near Payal. The complainant had alleged that the accused had stolen his Bajaj Chetak scooter (PB-10-L 6129) from the Model Town extension on July 7.

Teachers given lessons in oral health

A one-day Dental Health Education Training Programme for school teachers concluded at Christian Dental College here today. More than 150 school teachers from government schools of Khanna and Doraha blocks and teachers from Ludhiana city attended this training programme. Role of higher education stressed

Anticipatory bail denied
Ludhiana, August 27
A city court has denied anticipatory bail to Tejinder Singh Makkar, accused of evading customs duty of more than Rs 15 crore by forging and fabricating documents. Declining the bail plea, Mr Inderjit Kaushik, Additional Sessions Judge, said, “There are serious allegations of evasion of customs duty running into more than Rs 15 crore by the accused in connivance with R.C.Jain and others.

The kabaddi team of Dhurkot village won the Sukhvir Singh Sukhi Memorial Kabaddi (62 Kg) Cup worth Rs 31,000 on the concluding day of the Rural Sports Festival of Kot Gangu Rai yesterday. In the final match of kabaddi Dhurkot defeated the team of Pachhon (Bathinda).
