Reduction mammoplasty performed

Plastic surgery is fast becoming affordable for common people, specially for those with distorted physical features caused by accidents and diseases.
A large number of patients are availing themselves of this facility at the Department of Plastic Surgery, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital.

Recently, in one such case, Dr Sanjeev Uppal, performed a reduction mammoplasty on a 29-year-old patient, giving her a new lease of life.

From the past two years, life had become an ordeal for Raj Rani (not her real name), who developed enlargement and drooping of both the breasts after the birth of her child. Since the past six months, as she also stated having pain in her shoulders and breasts and developed an inferiority complex due to this physical deformity. She tried some medications but did not get any relief.

Dr Uppal said the problem was common in Indian women, but the awareness level was very low.

After counselling, Dr Uppal persuaded Raj Rani to go in for the breast reduction technique, known as reduction mammoplasty.

During the six-hour operation, nearly 3800 gm of tissue were excised from the breasts and their normal shape restored.

The patient was discharged on fifth post-operative day.

Dhurkot team wins kabaddi cup

The kabaddi team of Dhurkot village won the Sukhvir Singh Sukhi Memorial Kabaddi (62 Kg) Cup worth Rs 31,000 on the concluding day of the Rural Sports Festival of Kot Gangu Rai yesterday. In the final match of kabaddi Dhurkot defeated the team of Pachhon (Bathinda). On the other hand, old record of bullock cart races was broken by the bullock cart of Lung village. It took a time of 36.82 seconds to cover a distance of 7 acre.

This 57th rural olympics of Kot Gangu Rai were inaugurated by Sant Paramjeet Singh and the Chairman of National Minority Commission of India, Mr Tarlochan Singh, former acting president of SGPC Jathedar Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, Chief Whip of SAD Legislative Party Manpreet Singh Badal, Rajya Sabha member Lala Lajpat Rai and MLA of Koom Kalan Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal, were also present on the occasion.

The winners of different events held on various days are as follows: kabaddi; kabaddi (30 Kg) — Nandpur first, Chhandran Second; kabaddi (37 Kg) — Dhat first, Kullewal second; kabaddi (45 Kg) — Kaunke Kalan first, Jhammat second; kabaddi (52 Kg) — Kot Gangu Rai (A) first and Kot Gangu Rai (B) second; kabaddi (57 Kg) — Kakrala Bhaika first and Nasrali second; Single club kabaddi — Jalaldiwal first, Kubba second; and All Open — Harjit Club Moga first, Otalan second.

Tug of war — Burj Dona first and Chuhar Chak second. Volleyball shooting — Chak Kalan first, Uppal second.

Sukhvir Singh Sukhi Memorial Bullock Cart Races’ Cup worth Rs 21,000 was shared by Bhupinder Singh of Jandiali and Darshan Singh of Kot Gangu Rai.

Athletics: Long Jump — Dilbar Singh Kultham first, Gurwinder Singh Dburji second and Sodhi Jagatpur third. Girls — Akwinder Kaur Khanna first,Kamaljeet Kaur Katani second and Reena rani Mehdoodan third.

Veterans’ races — Jaswant Singh Khehra first, Bakhtaur Singh Gagra second and Nachhattar Singh Manji Sahib Kotan third.

In his address Manpreet Singh Badal appreciated the club for remembering the rich heritage of rural sports.

Jathedar Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, announced a grant of Rs 2 lakh on the behalf of Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra.

Lala Lajpat Rai announced the grant of a sum of Rs 2 lakh for constructing the road leading to Nankana Sahib Public School of the village.

The Chairman of the club Najar Singh Kooner who had come specially from USA thanked all the guests for attending the concluding ceremony of the sports function.

The four-day event was organised at Gurdial Stadium.

Basketball trials on Aug 29

Ludhiana, August 27
The Ludhiana District Basketball Association (LDBA) will conduct trials to select the Ludhiana teams (girls and boys) at the Guru Nanak Stadium here on August 29.

According to Mr Teja Singh Dhaliwal, honorary general secretary, LDBA, the selected cagers will represent Ludhiana in the forthcoming Punjab Youth Basketball Championship slated to be held from September 2 to 6 at Jalalabad (Ferozepore).

Boys and girls, born on or after January 1, 1987, are eligible to take part in the trials. They have been advised to report at the venue on August 29 at 4 p.m.

Hockey match

Ludhiana, August 27
An exhibition hockey match will be held here at the astroturf ground of Punjab Agricultural University on August 29 at 5 p.m. Mr S.L. Lotey, District Sports Officer, said the match would be organised between the teams of the Speed Fund Academy, Ludhiana, and the Olympian Surjit Singh Academy, Jalandhar, to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend late Major Dhyan Chand on Friday. The day is observed as the National Sports Day in the country. OC
