The celebrations were marked by a fancy-dress competition in which the children came dressed up as national heroes. 1 held with 120 kg of poppy husk
Ludhiana, August 10
The Civil Lines police yesterday nabbed a man near the bus stand and seized 120 kg of poppy husk from him. The accused, identified as Ranjit Singh, resident of Dhanola Road, Barnala, in Sangrur district, was booked under sections 15,61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.

2 killed in accident
Sahnewal, August 10
Two persons were killed in an accident on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh road, near Kohara, between a Maruti car and a Tata Sumo, last night. Nitish Gupta of Urban Estate, Jamalpur, has complained to the Sahnewal police that Dr Gurpreet Singh and Mandeep Kaur were going in their Maruti car when a Tata Sumo (PB10X-9738) hit it near Kohara.

Teachers of Lovely Lotus Nursery School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, decided to give a surprise to the students. They prepared rakhis based on shapes. As many as 227 polyclinics would be set up in the country to provide medicare to ex-servicemen and their families in their districts under the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme(ECHS).

Nankana Sahib and BCM schools to clash in final

Nankana Sahib School, Gill Road, scored a comprehensive 93-run victory over R.S. Model Senior Secondary School to set up the title clash with BCM School, Shastri Nagar, who defeated Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, by 27 runs in the Inter-School (Gill zone) Cricket Tournament (under-19) being organised at Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, here today.

Bhamia Kalan sports festival

The annual sports festival at Bhamia Kalan village, near here, will be held from September 10 to 14. According to Mr Joga Singh Grewal, president of Baba Kehar Dass Cultural and Sports Club, a decision to hold this annual festival was taken at a meeting of the club held at Dard Stadium, Bhamia Kalan, today.
