Grant houses to be
resumed Kasauli, June 18 Following the receipt of a grant of Rs 16,000 crore from the Ministry of Defence for providing adequate accommodation to Army personnel under the “marriage accommodation” project, the cantonment authorities across the country are surveying areas for the purpose. It is learnt that in the Kasauli cantonment, 160 acres was occupied by 80 grant houses and 20 leased land premises. With the ownership of these properties resting with the heads of resident and the land rights with the Army, the houses can be resumed by the Army if required. The authorities are surveying the properties to update records and facilitate the resumption process. The authorities said the resumption of the houses would take place in a phased manner and that too of those houses which were by and large located near the Army installations. The measure was not vindictive, as was being felt by a section of the house owners, they clarified, adding that most of the bungalows were palatial and over 75 per cent of the area remained unutilised in the form of lawns. Meanwhile, property buyers have been thronging the town ever since the news of the resumption move spread in the region. With a view to providing accurate information, the Army authorities have erected a board near the town’s barrier, cautioning people from entering into such deals with their knowledge. The authorities said since the houses could be resumed any time, it was mandatory for the buyer to know the nitty gritty of investing in a property in the cantonment. A no-objection certificate was required for mutation from the Army for new sale deeds. The owners of the properties which would be resumed would be provided with a plot either on Upper Mall or Lower Mall and two years would be granted for the construction of a house. While the Army would bear the cost of developing the plot, it would be ensured that facilities like club and market remained within the reach of house owners. There was a possibility that not more than a dozen houses would be resumed, they said, adding that a notice would be served on owners. Meanwhile, the house owners who have formed an association met the brigade commander today to discuss the issue. |
