Do Somnath to Bhojshala: Uma
Dhar (Madhya Pradesh), June 3 “Bhojshala is not a disputed structure,’’ Ms Bharati told reporters after performing puja at Bhojshala along with Union Minister of State for Tourism Bhavana Chikhaliya. Blaming the Congress for creating a controversy on the issue, Ms Bharati said, “The Congressmen named the complex as a masjid, which was wrong and Chief Minister Digvijay Singh should repent for this mistake on part of the Congressmen.’’ “Clear remnants of a temple have been found in Bhojshala. Hence Muslims should not have any claim over the complex and steps should be taken for renovating the complex,’’ she said. Strongly advocating that Bhojshala is not an election issue for the BJP but a matter of faith, Ms Bharati said, “The Congress has unnecessarily created controversies on issues of national importance.’’ On the coming Assembly polls, she said, “The BJP will contest the elections on issues of development.’’ Ms Chikhaliya specified that the bhajans sung today had not violated any rules and norms. On the demand of the Hindu Jagran Manch for placing a ban on Namaz in the Bhojshala, the minister said that she would not comment at this stage. “We will, however, take effective steps in this direction in the future’’. Ms Chikhaliya raised strong objection over the “Bhojshala-kamal maula masjid’’ written on the documents of the Archeological Survey of India and the tickets for entry to the Bhojshala. More than 500 persons were present in the Bhojshala, when Ms Bharti and Ms Chikhaliya entered the premises. It may be mentioned that the Hindus had been earlier granted permission to offer only floral worship at the Bhojshala on every Tuesday. Likewise, the Muslims has been allowed to offer Namaz every Friday. Violence had flared over the Bhojshala issue earlier in February this year.

USA has double standards: Naidu New Delhi, June 3 “India is fully capable of dealing with the problem of cross-border terrorism, the international community also has a responsibility to crush the menace of terrorism wherever it is and in whichever form”, Mr Naidu said. “In this context there is a feeling that double standards are being followed by the USA while dealing with Pakistan”, he said. The BJP President said this while interacting with a delegation of the American Council for Young Political Leaders, comprising representatives from the Democratic Party and the Republican Party at the party’s headquarters here. Emphasising that India wants peaceful co-existence with all countries, including Pakistan, Mr Naidu said: “Unfortunately so far the experience with Pakistan has not been positive given the continuing support to cross-border terrorism”. The BJP chief said India had made repeated efforts to normalise and improve relations with Pakistan and hoped that the latest initiative of the Prime Minister, Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, would result in lasting peace between the two countries. Mr Naidu also presented to the delegation a broad overview about the functioning of the Indian democracy. From the Republican Party, the delegates included Hon Dan Roach, representative, Washington, Lynette Boggs McDonald, council member, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Alex X Mooney, Senator, Maryland. Court orders FIR against minister
Jaipur, June 3 The order was passed by the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate-VI Ramesh Chand Sharma on a complaint lodged by Badan Lal’s elder brother Roop Lal, who had contested the police version of suicide and alleged that his brother had been murdered. Roop Lal had approached the court after officials at Sodala police station refused to register the FIR against the Home Minister and merged the complaint with the suicide case lodged at Sanganer police station. Admitting his complaint, the Magistrate asked the police to register the FIR under Sections 302 and 201 of the CrPC at Sodala police station. In his complaint, which named the Home Minister as respondent, Roop Lal had challenged the police claim that Badan Lal had committed suicide by lying before a running train. There was a bullet wound on the head and “we are convinced by looking at the body that he was murdered,” Roop Lal stated. He expressed doubts over the Home Minister’s conduct in the episode and demanded that Mr Shaktawat and the guards at his residence should also be included under the purview of the probe.

Law panel for recording of statement by magistrate New Delhi, June 3 “It is the need of the hour to keep society safe against crimes and this can be possible if the guilty is brought to punishment by ensuring that the witnesses do not turn hostile during cross-examination by the trial court,” Law Commission member N.M. Ghatade told The Tribune. The commission has recommended to the Centre that appropriate steps should be taken to ensure recording of the statements of witnesses by the magistrate, he added. Since the statement of a witness before the police under Section 161 of the CrPC was not an admissible evidence before the court, the alternative should be recording of the same by the magistrate during the investigation, he said. Currently the statement of an accused turning an approver, is generally recorded by the magistrate under Section 164. There had been a drastic fall in the success of the prosecution cases during the past two decades, especially where some high-profile people, mafias and hardened criminals were involved because most of the witnesses were turning hostile under pressure. |
