College celebrates annual day

Ludhiana, March 14
Students and staff of Government College for Women celebrated their annual prize distribution day here today.

On the occasion, students were given awards for their achievements in academics, sports and cultural activities. The students, who were awarded, included Gagandeepika Pahwa as the all round best student of BA III, Rajatdeep of BSc III for best Rotaract, Harjit of BA III as the best folk dancer, Shalini Gupta of BA III as the best classical dancer, Sukhmani Bajwa as the best NCC cadet, Manisha as the best undergraduate in home science, Rashi Sareen as the best singer, Jaskanwal Sohi as the best speaker, Jasdeep Kaur as the best instrumentalist among postgraduates, Rohini Gupta as the best postgraduate in home science, Karamjit Kaur as the best instrumentalist among undergraduates, Neha Arora as the best hosteller, Kamaljeet Kaur as the best player, Ravinder Kaur as the best athlete, Sunmeet Kaur as the best artist among postgraduate students and Supreet Kaur as the best artist among the undergraduates.

Mr Sumer Singh Gurjar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (development), was the chief guest.

PAU research fellows hold meeting

Ludhiana, March 14
As many as 110 research fellows working on contract basis at Punjab Agricultural University held a meeting here today.

The members discussed their common problems and unanimously elected Mr Kanwaljeet Singh Sandhu from the Department of Soils as the president of the Researchers Association, Mr Rajinder Singh from the Department of Plant Breeding as vice-president, Mr Sanjay Arora from the Department of Soils as general secretary, Mr Ravinder Singh from the Department of Entomology as Joint Secretary and Mr Sudhir Thamman as treasurer. Seminar on higher education

Ludhiana, March 14
Keeping in view the changing scenario in the field of education, GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, organised a national-level UGC-sponsored seminar on “Challenges for higher education in the 21st century”.

An eminent economist and social scientist, Dr S.S. Johl, Vice-Chairman, Punjab State Planning Board, was the chief guest. More than 100 distinguished delegates and faculty members of the host college participated in the seminar.

Dr Johl, in his presidential address, urged intellectuals to gear up to face the challenges of higher education.
