New DC: names sent to ministry
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, February 27
The Administration has finalised the names of the Deputy Commissioner and the Municipal Commissioner and recommended the same to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for a formal approval and appointment.

The sequence of names in their order of preference has been kept a closely guarded secret. This seems like a move to avoid any embarrassment for the top bosses as the ministry in the past has not gone by the Administration’s recommendation on the name of the SSP.

The tenure of the Deputy Commissioner and the Municipal Commissioner, Mr Ram Sekhar and Mr M.P. Singh, respectively, comes to an end in April. The UT Administrator, Lieut-Gen J.F.R. Jacob (retd) had interviewed three IAS officers of the Haryana cadre for the post of Deputy Commissioner in the last week of January. The three in the race are Mr Arun Kumar of the 1989 batch; Mr Abhilaksh Likhi of the 1991 batch and Mr R.K. Rao of the 1991 batch. The present Deputy Commissioner, Mr M. Ramsekhar, has been here for the past four years.

Out of the three officers interviewed Mr R.K. Rao has served as the Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh for eight months when Mr K.K. Khandewal was repatriated and Mr Ramsekhar was yet to be posted.

Meanwhile, Punjab had sent a three-member panel which comprises a woman, Mrs Raji. P. Srivastava, a 1991 batch IAS officer.
